so a co-worker of mine received a wedding invite in the mail and along with the invite was a 'dress code'. it stated that she had to wear sleeves, a veil, she had to cover her legs...etc. she was asking if i had heard anything like that.
has anyone else recieved something like this or even heard of it???

i've never heard of this, BUT - are the B&G marrying in a strict religious ceremony? that may be way. for example, in most jewish temples, a woman must have her shoulders covered.

Was this some kind of prank or something cause it sure sounds like it...I never heard of anything like this...I heard of invites stating formal attire or black tie attire...this is kind of funny if you ask me..

Its possible its a religious thing -- their church/temple may have strict regualtions. But im not going to lie.....if it were me, I wouldnt go to the ceremony. I think its a little rediculous to expect your guests to wear a veil to cover themselves....even if it is a religious thing. You just cant expect people to actually do that.

yes -- my family was invited to a bat mitzvah and there was a whole dress code to follow!
ETA: I'm not Jewish, but I dated a Jewish guy once so I'm familiar with these practices to a certain degree. And, I don't agree with the post above. I would go to the ceremony and I would obey the customs, if I felt close to the person. I realize that other people have different beliefs than I do, and I wouldn't consider it a hassle to abide by those customs for just one day...especially the most special day in the lives of these two people. If you're not close to them, then it's another story.

Re: have you heard of this???
i have heard of that before---its a religious thing
my sister works in a school that is run by Orhodox Jews -- and their weddings are VERY VERY different than ours. all women are supposed to be covered from neck to ankle--including sleeves. women must appear modest for the ceremony and reception
men & women (even if married) are not permitted to sit next to each other during the ceremony or even during the reception. so its almost pointless to bring a date to such an affair--cause you will be at different tabls for dinner and dancing together between men & women is forbidden. (dancing is something private and intimate that shoudl be done only in the privacy of your home) so men are allowed to dance in a group---and vice versa. and you really are not supposed to watch the opposite sex dancing--sometimes they hold up a type of curtain to prevent the men from watching the women--and vice versa.
my sister has been to about 5 weddings since she started working with them--and just about each wedding was the same way.

Re: have you heard of this???
i think that is a great idea!!! If I were invited to a very religious wedding I would very much appreciate a kind of 'dress code' I would rather kNOW what to wear rather than show up and disrespect them and their faith! If they love me enough to include me at their wedding I hope that I love/respect them enough to try and comply with their faith!
of course if the 'dress code' had nothing to do with religion and just was done bc the bride wanted it .. . then of course i would think it was tacky!

Re: have you heard of this???
What religion are these people...I am jewish, and I know that the orthodox want you to cover your arms, legs, and possibly your hair if you are married, but I never heard the veil...as far as I know, my ceremony requires covered shoulders, but I am negotiating that (our officiant is FFIL)!

I don't know if 'veil' was used properly. I think she may be referring to the small piece of lace (don't know the formal name) that women sometimes wear in temple.
