I'm just wondering because I haven't been to that many weddings. My FH's friend and his gf went to a wedding this weekend, where she caught the bouquet. The also did a garter toss and the man who caught it had to put it on her leg? Is this a tradition? I never heard of it and was caught off guard when my FH told me that.
Have you seen this before?

I've seen several weddings where this is done, but I won't have it at mine. I don't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable.

yes many people do this... it is the original tradition
some people think it is quite unclassy so there are other things to do

Yup, they do it all the time. IMO it's incredibly tacky, if not downright sleazy. But maybe that's just because I've seen lots of people do it in a sleazy way!
That's why we're not doing the garter toss.

Yes I have seen it a few times, but I think in the past 5 years or so, people really don't do it anymore...I'm not going to..hopefully the whole thing will die soon..

Yes, it's tradition to do that but I'm opting not to. I will give my bouquet to my mother and I will keep my garter. You don't have to do ANYTHING, it's up to you.

we did that at my wedding, but my 12 year old cousin caught the bouquet, so we kept it clean

Wow, I'm shocked this is tradition... I didn't think that this would be done... esp when I heard the DJ was like, put it higher, put it higher.
I'm definitely not doing this, if it made his friend so uncomfortable to watch another man do this to his gf.....
Thanks ladies

Re: Have you heard/seen this before?
I dont like this tradition. Went to a wedding a while back when my FI caught the garter and one of the brides maids caught the bouquet.
The other guys blinedfolded him and he had to put the garter up ger leg.
I got a little upset and kicked him while he was in the process. lol We had a few drinks that night.
i guess it all depends on the crowd....we have a lot of single friends, so they all did it in good fun....no one was offended or embarassed by it. and my cousin has the throw-away bouquet hanging in her room. she dried it after the wedding and is keeping it as a memento...i thought it was sweet to have her be part of the wedding like that!

Re: Have you heard/seen this before?
since it can turn into something sleazy.... here is anopther suggestion which i might do....the band or dj while plaing a slow song invites all couples on the dance floor (not you and husband) that has been married for atleast 1 year then gradually says ok all people married for atleast 5 years remain on the dance floor, couples 10 years, couples 20 years etc... at the end the couple married the longest remains usually a set of grandparents they receive the bouquet the last wedding i was at did this and the brides parents were married the longest... it was sooooo nice
