Have you noticed?

Have you noticed?

That since you are pregnant you think about your relationship with your own parents even more? My mom, who has flaked out since I was 17 years old, is really upsetting me even more than normal now. I keep thinking 'So when did you decide that being a mom was too much trouble or not worth the sacrifice?' I have always had trouble dealing with 'our issues' but now it is a lot worse for me. I think it is because I am having my own baby and really cannot understand it even more now.
Anyone else feel like this?

Michele I think it is normal to look at your parents with an even more critical eye, once you become a parent yourself. It is hard to accept their shortfalls and mistakes even more, especially when you find yourself vowing to be the best parent on the planet to your soon-to-be first child. But, like we've said before, parenting is not an exact science and we (and our parents) are only human.

I went through some of what you describe, except that it was focused on my non-existent biological father. It does pass, though...as long as you deal w/what you are feeling and understand that we cannot change the mistakes our parents made - we can only learn from them, and be stronger and better parents ourselves.
