Have your wedding ideas gone way out of proportion?

Have your wedding ideas gone way out of proportion?

My original thoughts and plans about the colors of the dresses, bridal party, place, dress, etc. Has totally changed from the original idea, which was a beach wedding for 40 guests, simple beach dress with everyone looking beachy. Now we have a reception hall, over 80 guests, flowers! and omg a band! So we have definitely deviated from the original idea. We changed from the beach because everything we would need for it got complicated and it seemed easier to marry in a reception hall with beautiful gardens.

Has anyone else had or is going through this experience?

OF COURSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was supposed to have a destination wedding. My original color was chocolate brown, with latte or aqua. Then I changed to Aqua and ivory, then Aqua and silver. And don't even mention the guest list!!!! My sister has renamed me the flip flop bride!!!!

That is what my fiance keeps telling me! He said: Imagine a time where there was no such thing as bridal magazines, and there was one bridal shop in town, with one church down the road. You would probably fall in love with the most simple dress and would get married just in that church because there aren't as many options. But because there are more options, it's harder to choose and stay with that choice.

Re: Have your wedding ideas gone way out of proportion?

I have changed wedding ideas 1000 times already, lol. Before all the planning I said to myself my wedding has to be a NYC wedding, I went to look at NYC venues but that idea went out the window, next I said my wedding has to be on the beach or else, but that soon changed. Your thoughts change soooo much, you imagine your wedding in your head but in real life it comes out almost the sam or different. Its ok to change thoughts and ideas and going on to LIW to find out more ideas etc.

My original wedding idea was at the Watermill in the fall with a silver and purple theme. Now we're getting married in a castle on the 4th of july and everything will be bright and summery.

yup....same here! lol i love this site...but i sometimes think that it kind of made it worse...cause a lot of stuff that we added and such (and was more ) were things i saw as ideas from other girls' weddings!

but i wouldn't have changed a thing!

absolutely...i wanted an outdoor ceremony and FH and his family would NOT go for that since they are devout Catholics and need a church wedding. And then from being on LIWeddings (which by the way has been THE GREATEST thing EVER!!!!), I found so many ideas and vendors that I think my wedding would have been completely different. I almost did a one stop shop deal for photos, video, flowers, etc and the girls on here kind of talked me out of it...and I hired a DOC which I would NEVER have done or even known about before this site! That is why this site ROCKS!!!!

Re: Have your wedding ideas gone way out of proportion?

oh yeah.

my original ideas were all modest and budget concious.... everything has now blossomed into a rather opulent affair.... letterpress invitations, a vintage car, $$$ veil, bought 'real' jewelry, top shelf booze, and a high-end photographer and florist...

how it happened, I have no idea.... the budget more than doubled, but the guest list remained the same....

Do I regret any of these decisions, not as of yet. It's still a modest wedding budget (mainly due to the short guest list and small bridal party). And the new version has almost no compromises!!!

I am in the same exact situation. Compared to other weddings, I am spending far less, but it is also because of the size of my guest list.

I never expected to spend 3k on a photographer or wear a cathedral length veil. There was a point where I wasn't going to wear a veil. Hell, there was a point that I assumed I would just go on down to City Hall and call it a day!

Re: Have your wedding ideas gone way out of proportion?

Originally I wanted just our immediate families and some close friends. A ceremony in central park and then just dinner in NYC. But FH decided the engagement had to be at least 2 years. SO I said 'Oh yeah? Well I don't need two years to pick my entree for dinner' And that started the wedding plans. We gone back and forth and I really wanted to do a DW. Now we are getting married in a hall and I'm getting a little sticker shock What's worse is he just doesn't get it! He says we booked the hall what else do we need?

Re: Have your wedding ideas gone way out of proportion?

Our wedding is DEFINITELY bigger than we originally wanted. We were supposed to have a wedding by the water in VA where I went to university and a small dinner after for approx. 50 people.

NOW we're having a NY wedding with 200 people no water and a bridal party of 10 people. I just have way too much family and especially being I'm the first grandchild getting married in the family on both sides. My FH isn't very close with his extended family so only like 30 of the 200 are his invitees Poor man he doesn't know what he got himself into!!

I've been planning my weddind since I was 3 and everything's changed ! I've always had all these ideas of what I would do but now that I'm really planning it everything is different. Colors, flowers, location. It's funny, I thought it was just me. Glad it's not
