My mom is very thin and young-looking and is having a hard time finding a dress. A lot of MOB dresses are very old-lady looking or unflattering on smaller sizes. (she's probably a size 2 or 4).
Any suggestions? We've found a few she's liked but then decided against them. We're thinking maybe strapless, fitted on top with some sort of flared skirt but not too ballgown-ish. She doesn't want a mermaid style and doesnt want to look like a bridesmaid.
We're also ideally looking for a purply/plum color but we're flexible.
Please post pictures if you have any suggestions, or what your MOB is wearing if she's in the same boat.

Re: having a hard time finding a MOB dres...
Wow - we're looking for the same thing! Same size - same colors - same style!
We're lost too!
Although my mom does like the jade collection....check it out.
My mom wants something glam so she'll feel like MOB but she's been looking everywhere. There was one dress she initially liked and I liked a lot (from online pix, i didnt see it in person) but she went today to try it on and didnt like it
it's so hard! especially when all of the samples are like a size 14

Agree with the above posters about checking the evening dress sections of department stores.
In your OP, you said that your mom 'didn't want to look like a bridesmaid.' I was curious what that meant. A bridesmaid dress could be an option--I think a number of the Bill Levkoff and the Alvina Valenta dresses are quite formal, elegant, and suitable for an MOB. I also suggest checking out Caterina, an MOB line from Jordan Bridal.
Good luck!

I have the entirely opposite problem...my mom and FMIL need something for the older crowd without being too old looking...I wish I had your dilemma!!

maybe you could check out estelle's on route 110. My mom wants to go there to check out their selection because what we've seen at bridal shops is just to sparkly and glam in her opinion. They have a huge selection and my mom has found dresses there before.

Wow, what you're looking for sounds ust like my moms gown!
My mom is also thin (sz 4) and young looking and refused to buy an 'old lady' dress. We went to Fantasia Bridal in Rocky Point and found a bunch of dresses she liked... and then we found this one. She ordered it on te spot in aubergine. I forgot who makes this dress, but Jovani also carried a lot of what you're looking for.
Definetly try Omnibus in Babylon Village. They have such cool dresses for moms

She didn't want a very very plain dress that looks like a bridesmaid dress, she wanted it to be a little more special (maybe with beading or something) to make her look like a MOB. I like simple and had showed her some pretty BM dresses but she didn't really like them.

This is my mom's dress..... She ordered it from Bridal Reflections in Massapequa....
I second the Jade line by Jasmine....my mom is also slim (maybe a 6), and was looking for something not too matronly. She ended up with this dress:
in the Starry Night color. Some others from Jade that sound like what your mom wants (all come in a bunch of colors which are really pretty!):

My mom got a Jovani dress...it was on the expensive side but totally worth it...the shocker was they thought it would take 3-4 months and it came in in under a month!!!!
