Having a really hard time!

Having a really hard time!

Hey guys, I haven't posted in forever! I'm still in the middle of taking my boards and applying for residencies.

Well I booked my wedding for Sunday May 31, 2009 at the upstairs of the Harbor Club for a pretty cheap price. Since it is a Sunday it is an afternoon weeding. I booked Rantin' and Raven for my DJ because the I got it for a great price with a piano player during my CH. I also got Photos by Ilene, for my photography. I splurged a little and got Flowers by Verbena for my flowers. Everything is on a budget and we are doing the whole thing for 80 people for under $9,000.

The problem is, because I am studying and working all the time and my FH and I are trying to get into super competitive residencies (radiology, and top tier internal medicine programs) we we just feel that we didn't research our reception hall enough (we never even went there) and now any time I talk about the wedding I'm pretty depressed about it. I'm sad the wedding is on a Sunday, I'm sad that the wedding is at the Harbor Club, I'm sad that it is in the top floor and not the bottom floor, and I'm sad that it will be over by 4:30pm. I have my STD out but I just can't get excited about it yet.

The thing is though, I can't express any of these issues, and any time I say anything to my FH or my mom or any of my bridemaids. Anytime I say anything about how I feel my FH I get told how we can't afford anything else, and when I tell my mom or my BMs (all of them are future docs too) they tell me to be happy that I'm even getting married in such a stressful time and to be grateful of all the great things that are happening in my life, professionally (which is true).

I can't cancel now, and I love my FH, and I want to get married, I'm just not excited about the wedding that seems to be coming together. We also can't postpone until we start making doctor money.

Is anyone else having these problems? Maybe any ideas about how to get excited about the wedding I have planned? What about any ideas about having an afternoon wedding at the Harbor Club upstairs.

All I can say is, no matter what time of the day/week/year you're having your wedding and no matter which room it's in, the service at the Harbor Club is going to be fantastic. We went to a friend's wedding there (not in the upstairs room) and they treated everyone like royalty.

Having your wedding during the day there is going to be beautiful - the Harbor Club is a beautiful place and you can't fully appreciate how gorgeous it is at night.

I'm using Verbena as well and I love Jen's work - she is phenomenal with flowers and has such a special talent. Your centerpieces and bouquets will be stunning!

As for getting excited about the wedding, I know it's tough when you have other things going on (work, school, etc). But remember that the Harbor Club will NOT disappoint and your wedding is going to be the most special day of your life!

Re: Having a really hard time!

Don't feel sad about things. Maybe you're just more stressed than you realize and not giving yourself a chance to be happy about the wedding. To be honest, i wasn't jumping for joy either. my Fi and I have been engaged since 2005 and in the beginning i wanted this big elaborate wedding. We kept putting it off because we wanted to move first. We lived in a studio. Now 3 years later, we finally moved. We booked our hall in July but still I wasn' t happy. Planning this wedding started to seem more ike a chore than anything else and WHO LIkes to do chores. Planning was just another thing on my long list of to do's. along with working 9-5, finding a school for my 4yr old and taking care of home. We have no one helping us with this wedding. It really got to the point that i just wanted to go to city hall and get married but i knew i would regret it. Here i am trying to do what most do in a year or two, in six months(FEB. 15'09) and it is STRESSFUL. I am only having 75 MAX.
I will tell you even though it started out as more a headache than a joyous occasion, I am NOW hving the time of my LIFE!!! MY mom and I just went out yesterday and spent the whole day out. We went to Michaels and Linens and Things and got stuff for my centerpieces. I will be ordering pocketfolds for my invites ina couple of weeks. As long as you have people around you who are willing to help out, you will be alright. Don't worry about the expenses...as long as your hall is booked everything else can become a DIY project. I can even help if you need me to(I REALLY MEAN THAT). As for not seeing your hall, I'm sure its beautiful. A lot of people on here has gotten married or will be married there. If there are things that you don't like about it, i'm sure the staff will work with you to change it or you can add your own personal touches. Also, Sunday afternoon wedding is absolutely fine. One of my friends had her wedding in the afternoon (ceremony started at 11am) and then had a buffet style luncheon. It was beautiful. Not only that, it gives people something really nice to do on their Sunday afternoon and dn't have to worry about it being over late, the long drive home at night, or having to worry about not being able to get up the next morning if they have something to do.
DON'T WORRY everything is going to be just fine and BEAUTIFUL. IT'S YOUR WEDDING!!!! SMILE

Thanks guys! Thanks for all those ideas about the DIY projects!
I hope the Harbor Club is as nice as everyone keeps saying. Maybe I'll put out a post out to see if any of the Harbor Club brides had their wedding upstairs.
I just got an interview at Beth Isreal, so I'll be able to come up to NY soon, so maybe I'll be happier once I see the place. Any other suggestions?
