Hey girls!! I have to have surgery today on one of my wisdom teeth. I woke up feeling like I got punched in the face and I have to have it removed!! I'm a little nervous and heard it's aweful. And on Thursday FH and I are supposed to have our Engagement Pictures done. Do you guys think the swelling will be gone by then???

Re: Having Surgery
Sorry you are not feeling well. But it is better to get it done now that closer to the wedding!!!! I had mine taken out a couple of years ago and it was not bad at all. I didn't feel a thing during the procedure and my recovery time was very quick...I was actually back to work the next day. Everyone reacts different but I will keep my fingers for you that all goes well!!!

Re: Having Surgery
it will be ok - i have had 3 wisdom teeth removed - you will be fine. a good oral surgeon will have them out in seconds and you really wont feel a thing. just try to eat b4 you go...your mouth will be numb for a while afterward.....
good luck

Re: Having Surgery
I was knocked out for my oral surgery 20 years ago when I was 16. Because I was under general anesthesia, I was told NOT to eat. Make sure you know what type of anesthethetic you are having.
That being said, I was swollen for a couple of days and my skin was discolored because I was a bit black and blue which turned to yellow. Everyone is a little bit different and maybe procedures are done easier now. Good luck.

Re: Having Surgery
My face was swollen for 3 days after the surgery and was a little blue where the tooth was removed. Any good OS will do it without causing you discomfort/pain. However - remember to get ice frozen in your freezer (or my Mom soaked washcloths, placed in a plastic bag and stuck them in the freezer, so I could sleep with the ice on my face) before you go and have your FH go straight to the pharmacy with your pain presciption, so you have it when you come out. You will feel pain once you come out of the anesthetics, etc, so have everything ready - you'll be gargling with warm salt water to help disinfect the tooh area and keep germs away. It's disgusting, but it's better than having a wet socket that is as painful!!
Good luck!!!

Re: Having Surgery
My Brother had this remaining two wisdom teeth removed on Friday and I saw him the entire weekend...never noticed any swelling. Maybe you'll be just as lucky.

Re: Having Surgery
I had oral surgery done a few years ago for an impacted wisdom tooth. I didn't swell that much at all, but it may depend on how much they have to do to get the tooth out. Not much pain, took pain killers for a couple of days.

Re: Having Surgery
I agree with Katie - everyone is different! I can say I had ALL 4 out at once and was barely swollen at all the day of and totally normal looking the next day. I'll hope you are OK!!

Re: Having Surgery
Eveyone is different and you may need to reschedule your e-pic shoot. If it is swollen now, that means its impacted which may result it swelling after the surgery. However, there is a chance the swelling may go down since you are just pulling 1 tooth. I had ll 4 of mine taken out at once and I was swollen for 2 weeks. Put lts of ice on it and take your medice to avoid pai and discomfort. Its better that you are getting this done now than before the wedding.

Re: Having Surgery
It should be fine by Thursday. I had two of mine removed in early Sept and the swelling was gone in about a day or so. Make sure you take an Advil or Tylenol before you go because it will minimize the amount of pain you are in until you can take the strong pain killers.

Re: Having Surgery
I guess everyone is different. I had all four pulled at the same time, and had no swelling at all. It hurt for about two days or so, and bled for about 24 hours after. A week later I was totally back to normal.

Re: Having Surgery
i have had all 4 pulled, all at different times. i was in so much pain before i had them pulled that i felt so much better after they were pulled. out of all those 4 i had only one that swelled. you get all those neat painkillers afterward so you wont notice.
i also just received sweet air and novocaine. I was too afraid on a needle in my vein, so i opted not to have general. i didnt feel a thing while they were doing it.

Re: Having Surgery
I was only swollen for about 2 days, wasnt too bad, just a constant dull pain for a couple of days. Good Luck and take it easy after you have it done

Re: Having Surgery
You recovery time largely depends on whether your teeth are being pulled or whether they are impacted. My bottom wisdom teeth were impacted so I needed surgery to have them removed. I was on painkillers for 2 days, swollen for several days, and the area around my mouth eventually bruised and turned kind of yellow. I had my top wisdom teeth pulled a few years later. I had absolutely no problems. I wasn't in any pain and had no problems eating.
Hope your recovery is fast. Good luck.

Re: Having Surgery
I had all 4 done at once but 3 were impacted. One was growing into my jaw bone. That one caused swelling on the right side of my face that lasted over a month. I developed a dry socket (gum wouldn't clot) that took about 6 weeks to heal. EVERYONE is different, reacts differently and heals at their own pace. Hope you recover quickly
