FH and I are planning to book our honeymoon in a few months. We wanted to stop in San Diego on the way to Hawaii but found out this is not possible unless we want to take about 3 flights to get there. The travel agent suggested that we stop in San Francisco.....does anyone have any info on San Fran, good hotels, sites etc. We were thinking of visiting Napa Valley and going on one of those wine tours.
Also any recommendations for Maui or Kauai hotels??
I appreciate any info I can get.

Re: Hawaii-California Honeymoon
In San Francisco, The Pan Pacific or the Palace Hotel are both REALLY nice. I stayed in them for business trips.
The Palace is beautiful and has sort of that sophisticated french look going on. The Pan Pacific is also really nice, and the rooms have jacuzzi tubs and cozy robes.

I've stayed at the Marriott on 4th Street and it was really nice. There is a Marriott closer to the bay.

I live on Kauai, it is a beautiful place, lots of outdoorsy stuff to do I don't know your budget, but the Hyatt is amazing (very expensive though). A popular place to stay here is the Marriott Resort in Lihue because it is centrally located. Good luck!

We were actually thinking about staying at the Hyatt......looks like a beautiful resort.
Can you recommend any excursions or tours to do while visiting?

Re: Hawaii-California Honeymoon
Sure can :
Definitely go see Waimea Canyon, it is a neat place to see. Princeville Ranch Adventures has a really cool ziplining tour (they also offer Kayaking). Some visitors of ours went to Kipu Adventures ( i think that was the name of the company?) for an ATV tour and said that was fun. If you want to go to a luau, Smith's Tropical is really good, even the locals here say so It's a small island, so it is pretty easy to get around. To get from the Hyatt to the north shore is about an hour and a half drive. Hope this helped!!

Re: Hawaii-California Honeymoon
Do you know if any of the islands offer swimming with the dolphins? I did this once in the Bahamas and loved it.
Im a little scared of the ziplining tour but I want to do it anyway.
what kind of tour is Waimea Canyon?

Re: Hawaii-California Honeymoon
Oahu & Hawaii offer swimming with dolphins. Waimea Canyon is just a drive, I believe there are tour buses that go up it, but it is just a neat place to look at, they call it the mini Grand Canyon. They also have hiking trails if you are into that.

Re: Hawaii-California Honeymoon
I know this might sound stupid but is there any way to get to Hawaii or Oahu from Maui or Kauai other then by plane?
I really want to swim with the dolphins but I really dont want to make another stop on our trip.

Re: Hawaii-California Honeymoon
Its not a stupid question at all! Flying is honestly the easiest, cheapest way to island hop. They are starting a ferry service here, but the times and prices are not all that good. Lots of people will fly over to Oahu for just the day, or an overnight trip. I have to fly over there all the time for meetings for work. You could look at Hawaiian Airlines, Aloha Airlines, and Go Airlines. Sometimes they have cheap fares. I am not sure of the companies that do the dolphin swimming, I just remember looking it up online once because I've always wanted to do that. I understand about not wanting to have to travel so much, but you might like to island hop. Oahu and Kauai are very different. Kauai is very outdoorsy, not much night life, Oahu is more like NYC, lots of stuff to do all hours of the day.
