hawaii help please

I can't believe how much time we have spent on this honeymoon planning. Anyway, now we are thinking of doing 4 nights Maui and 6 or 7 Kauai at the Hyatt on both islands. Also, how important do you think the type of room is? Is it important or worth the cost for oceanview?

Re: hawaii help please

We just booked our honeymoon to Hawaii and we're doing 6 nights at the Hyatt in Maui and 4 at the Hyatt in Kaui. We got partial ocean view rooms at both hotels. We would have considered a mountain view room in one of them but our travel agent told us that the Island-hopper package is only available if you do at least a partial ocean view room and it was worth it to us. The island hopper package is when you stay at at least 2 Hyatts on at least 2 islands for at least 7 nights total. You get a reduced rate on the room, champagne at each hotel upon arrival, breakfast buffet every morning (which was important to us because it will save us a ton of $$$ on food in the long run) and I think the car is included on both islands too (although I might be wrong). All of that came to about $4600 in July (which is high season). I am not sure what rates you're getting for a mountain view room but you should check into the island hopper package. If you need a travel agent, I'd be happy to recommend one.

Good luck!

We are going to Kauai 3 nights The Hyatt and Maui 5 nights the 4 Seasons. We were going to do an ocean view room but we decided to get Garden views at both hotels and put the money toward excursions. Also if you compare the Four Seasons Maui Mountain view room with all that they include to other hotels at a higher grade room it will almost balance out. The Four Seasons really papmers you. Plus they do not nickle and dime you for everything. Might be worht looking into. Plus my agent said that Hawaii loves HM'ers so if you tell them you are on your HM sometimes they will upgrade you. Let me know if you want a good agent. She is in Manhasset and has been to Hawaii.

Good Luck!

this should be the vacation of your marriage...I say go for the oceanview (if you can afford it that is)

future vacations should not surpass this for a long time...so live it up!!!

we booked a mountain view room at the Kauai Hyatt (this was NOT our honeymoon) but the room we were put in was more of a garden view / partial ocean. It was a nice surprise. I think the Hyatt often upgrades the rooms.

I recommend you take some time to explore the island, particularly the north side. The Hyatt pools are so fabulous that you may never want to leave but you'd miss out of the exotic lushness of the north shore (we stayed in a Princeville condo & the Hyatt)

I booked mountain view rooms in all the hotels I stayed in. Some hotels upgraded us to partial oceanview and one even gave us a full oceanview. It is nice to have a view but when you think of it, how much time are you really spending in the room? You can use that money for food and sightseeing.

when booking our HM- these were our thoughts on the ocean view:
The view is nice and good in the day (when you are NOT in your room) then as soon as the sun goes down- you can't see a THING! It's so pitch black and murky and scary! We didn't want to pay that much money for complete darkness. So we went with the garden and mountain views.

We just got back from staying at both Hyatts in Maui and Kauai. We had ocean views and they were beautiful but if we have to skip it, it wouldn't have been horrible. The person who said your'e out of your room during the day and its dark at night is right. If you really want one, maybe get a partial ocean view- they are usually cheaper and you still get some ocean. Both hotels are great and the people are so nice!!

Re: hawaii help please

DEFINITELY a room with an ocean view...nothing beats sitting outside on the lanai watching the sun set and drinking mai tai's....my fiance and i went to hawaii last november (a year ago today we were there) and we had a nice room on the 8th floor....the sunsets were SO WORTH IT!

Which Hawaiian island is most secluded? Secluded as in not extremely crowded with some nightlife.

I was actually looking at Kauai packages today. If you go to http://www.hawaii.com, I do believe they have some good rates going on.

What are the ideal islands? Not too touristy

We bought this book Frommer's Guide to Hawaii and it really helped us a lot. I think Oahu is VERY touristy, but a lot of fun. I know Kauai is supposed to be gorgeous.

Re: hawaii help please

kauai is definitely gorgeous but NOT the place for you if you want nightlife, i don't think there's any there.

anyway in response to the room i think it depends on how important it is to you. we had an oceanview and i wouldn't have it any other way. i loved leaving the sliding glass door partially open and listening to the waves and night, i loved getting up early and watching the waves and i even loved sitting out there at night just to hear the waves. it was also great to sit on the balcony during the day and read with the gorgeous ocean in front of me. but it really just depends on you.
