Re: Hawaii Help!!! Please!!!!!

Hey we're going to Hawaii also but were staying on Kauai because we heard thats the most relaxed of the islands but from what other girls have told me on here Maui is like the party/happening island.

As for visiting other islands we are going to book a flight to probably Maui for 3 days 2 nights once we get there only because I dont want to be tied down to a schedule ahead of time.

We're staying at a Marriott timeshare which one do you have??

Re: Hawaii Help!!! Please!!!!!

if you want relaxation, nightlife and sightseeing stuff - Maui is the best location. Kauai is absolutely beautiful but VERY quiet. Oahu is more like a city (at least the Waikiki area - up on the north shore is quiet and beautiful).

Island hopping is very easy to do in Hawaii. The inter-island flights are cheap and quick.

I don't know too much about Hawaii, but if I were going there for my HM I would stay on Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island. The Grand Hyatt on Kauai looks AMAZINGGGGGG!!!!!!

We're going to Maui for 10 nights. Get the book Maui Revealed, it's amazing!

Re: Hawaii Help!!! Please!!!!!

i dont know about the timeshares, but if you can stay a few nights at each island, i would totally do that. interisland flights are SUPER cheap, usually around $40 - 60 roundtrip. maui is the honeymoon/romantic island... oahu is the city.. but waikiki is phenomenal and north shore is so much fun! kauai is ok, but it can get boring if you're not the outdoorsy type...

We've stayed at both the Grand Hyatt on Kauai and the Hyatt Regency on Maui twice - love both hotels!

I heard great reviews from several people about the Hyatts on Kauai and Maui. This is our plan- 5 on Kauai, 4 or 5 on Maui- then maybe a litte 2 night Vegas action on the way home.

Well we are staying in a timeshare so I will just keep it when we leave for the 3 days-- someone on here told me its really not something you do just for a day thats why we will be doing 3 days 2nts. The flight was about 45mins-1 hour.

I agree, great book! I highly recommend Maui. There is so much to do. We stayed at Fairmont Kealani Hotel. Actually, my florist stayed there one time and said he saw Jessica Simpson there. It's the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed at. I would imagine all of the hotels are nice, but this one wasn't crowded with kids/families. The Hyatt is supposedly a 'family resort'. There are lots of waterslides and 'kid activities'. That is why we decided against it, but...I know two people who have stayed there and loved it.

Just a few things you can do while you are in Maui:

HALEAKALA SUNRISE- A van will take you up to the top of the volcano early in the morning. You will watch the sunrise and then bike down the volcano/crater. Everyone does this excursion because it is a beautiful experience!

LAHAINA LUAU- The luau's in Lahaina are very traditional and formal (sit down)...whereas, the ones in the hotels are more casual.

LAHAINA SHOPPING- Lahaina is a cute town for getting souvenirs for cheap.

ROAD TO HANA- I am sure you've heard about it. Make sure you leave really early because it's a long day and you don't want to be traveling back in the dark because the roads are super curvy with no street lights. JMO, but I wasn't all that impressed with the Road to Hana. You basically just travel along the coast and look at the ocean. There are some waterfalls, but that's about it.

WHALE WATCHING- depending on the time of the year. They say the winter is the best time to see them.

RESTAURANTS-
All of the restaurants are expensive unless you go to the chain restaurants, like Cheeseburger in Paradise. We love cooking, so we were willing to pay the extra money to have quality food.

Some good restaurants for about 150 per couple:
Lahaina Grill-
Don't let the name fool you! It's not really a 'grill'. It's a classy restaurant.

Mama's Fishhouse-
Another name that sounds deceiving. This was my favorite restaurant! I had macadamia encrusted mahi mahi stuffed with shrimp. It was to die for!!!

Nick's Fishmarket (Restaurant in Fairmont Kea Lani)
The service was phenomenal here! Great food, too!

Ko (Outside Restaurant in Fairmont Kea Lani)
I loved this restaurant because it was outside so you could eat while the sun was setting. We actually ate here twice because the food was so good. They have a prixe fixe option which comes to about 40pp. This includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert. It was really affordable! The best dessert was the fried bananas!!!

Re: Hawaii Help!!! Please!!!!!

we're staying 10 days in maui and doing small day trips to some of the other islands.
you book inter-island flights with hawaiian air and you can set them up as soon as now or as late as that week from my understanding.
each island has a little something different to offer.
your best bet is to get on google or a few of those travel guides and nose around to see what fits you best :)

We're staying at a timeshare too. FIL's gave us theirs. We're booked at Ka'anappali North in Maui. Its a westin. We're staying there for 7 days then flying over to Oahu for 4 days. Might try at stay at the outrigger on Waikkiki. The airfare between islands is cheap. Its about 60-79 pp each way. Depending on how many times you're gonna do it. We might try and fly over to Kaui just for the day one of the days. We'll see. Just search it online. Go to Hotels.com and just see the reviews..

Also a friend of mine told me about swinging bridges. He said it was the coolest thing ever. Its hiking, and you cross over these swinging bridges, but once you get to the other side theres this gorgeous waterfall that empties into a tropical pool that everyone swims in and is worth every minute of the walk. Check it out. this is the pool at the end of hike. Swinging bridges

This is where we are staying on our HM. I think Maui has everything you mentioned. We're going to Oahu, Kauai and Maui. We want to experience it all but added more time in Maui.

Re: Hawaii Help!!! Please!!!!!

ladies thank you so so much!

you have no idea how helpful you have been!

dedecakes, you are amazing!

you have reassured me on my decision!

thinking about doing Maui- Hyatt Regency for 7 days...one day fly to Big Island to see the volcanoes

and then stay in Kuai for one or two days- or maybe just do a day trip there as well

and Oahu for the end of trip- a friend of mine told me we must do oahu/waikiki and said it is the easiest island to fly in and out for going to and from NY.
