Those of you going to Hawaii on your HM, what resorts do you plan to stay at?
Right now, I think we are set on 5 nights at the Hyatt Regency in Kauai and our travel agent mentioned the Fairmont in Maui....but...after doing some research, I have my heart set on the Four Seasons so 5 nights in Maui. And I think our first 2 nights we might spend in Waikiki...just not sure what hotel there.

Re: Hawaii HM
5 nights Oahu - Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach 8 nights Kauai - Grand Hyatt 10 nights Maui- Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa
I stayed at the Fairmont on a previous trip to Hawaii - it's beautiful. So is the 4 Seasons. We prefer the Hyatt on Maui because we like being close to Lahaina.
Wailea with the Fairmont & the 4 Seasons are is a little more quiet and out of the way.

What are the benefits of being near Lahaina instead of Wailea? I am clueless about Hawaii except for the surfing! lol

Wow...amd I reading your nights right? 23 nights?!?! That is amazing! That must cost a fortune. I would love to stay that long. I think we are just doing 12 nights total.

Yes - 23 nights. Believe it or not - it was FH's idea. But since we're using miles for airfare, it's probably costing us about the same, and I have a lot of Hyatt gold points which give us a couple of free nights.
Wailea is just a little more sleepy than Lahaina. I personally prefer Lahaina because there's lots of restaurants (so you're not stuck eating every meal in the hotel) and bars and cute little shops. It has restaurants for every budget and it's just a cute little town. Plus, I don't know what the 4 Seasons offers, but the Hyatts usually have a package where breakfast is included (and you get a better deal if you stay in more than one Hyatt so if you're already at the Grand Hyatt it works in your favor). The breakfasts are really amazing!
Also, if you stay at the Hyatt which is on Kaanapali beach, there is a walkway that goes from one end of the resort area to the other and in the middle is a cute open air mall with more restaurants and bars and shops (Whalers Village).
They are all beautiful hotels though. A

Wow, nice places.
The Four Seasons in Maui is incredible. We stayed there during my father's business hay day. It was incredible. They come around while your at the pool and hand you hot towels and Avion Spritz (spraying you with Avion). You feel like a celebrity. Actually while there we saw Steven Tyler playing with his children in the pool. Since your not supposed to bother celebrities when in 4 Star Hotels and Restaurants we left him alone. But he started talking to me on the breakfast buffet line (in his pink mumu). It was so cool!!! Stay there. Its one of the nicest places I have ever stayed.
We are staying next door at the Grand Wailea Resort and Spa, its a bit cheaper then the 4 Seasons, though still on the grand scale and there is a lot more going on there which is good for fh who doesn't do well at sitting around.
On the Big Island we are staying at the Marriot because we are using dad's Marriot points.

Re: Hawaii HM
We are spending 4 nights at the Hilton Hawaiian Village then spending 4 nights at the Grand Hyatt in Kauai and then spending 8 nights at the Four Seasons in Maui. I am obsessed with the Four Seasons and that is the hotel I am most excited about. I know a lot of 08'ers said they stayed at the Fairmont and they weren't too crazy about it so I think the Four Seasons is a great decision.

There is more going on in Lahaina, though Kaanapali (where the Hyatt is) is close to Lahaina it still isn't in it. But there is Whalers Village, which is fun. There is definitely more going on in Kaanapali then in Wailea. Also Kaanapali has one of the best beaches, second only to Kapalua's beach, but the only hotel up there is now the Ritz Carleton since the Kapalua Bay Hotel is no longer. (This makes me sad since it was a special place to me for 9 years, but they tore it down for luxury condos.) The negative to Kaanapali and the Hyatt is that it was the first part of the island developed and therefor it is the most built up.
Wailea is quieter and for the most part the beach is so so, the exception is the Four Seasons and Grand Wailea which has the best beach in Wailea and the third best beach on the island. The advantage to Wailea is its the dessert so it rarely gets any rain. But in Hawaii if it rains anywhere just drive to another part of the island and you will find sun.
