hawaii hm opinion

hawaii hm opinion

I was hoping I could get some opinions on a potential hawaiian honeymoon:

8/10/09 - 8/22/09

8/10-8/14 Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach in Honolulu (oahu)

8/14-8/19 Hilton Kauai Beach Resort (Kauai)

8/19-8/22 Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa (Maui)

All airfare (to and from ny, and inter-island) included, as well as rental cars on all three islands.

Quoted $6927

At first, I thought this was a great deal, then I started hearing from people that due to the economy prices have dropped, so I thought I'd ask for others' opinions. Thanks

I think thats the average rate. I'm actually paying a little less then that but not too much. I spoke to about four different TA's and they all told me budget about $7k for 11nights in Hawaii.

forgot to mention, i see you are renting a car on all three islands....a lot of people don't rent cars in Honolulu bc its like a major city, so mass transportation is all over so its not necessary, you can save a few hundred by cutting that out.

I thought i was finding good deals on the internet too...then I figured I would contact Tom from Amex travel since people on this board recommended him. I am going at the same time for 12 nights to those 3 islands...includes cars, breakfast, inter-island flights for a little over $5K total.

If you want, tom doesn't charge any fees you can just ask for the current rate (probably the same as mine since I booked about 2 weeks ago for august also).

The price sounds just ok to me. We're spending about $7,500 for 23 nights in November going to the same islands (including inter-island airfare and cars on all 3 islands - not our airfare to/from Hawaii which we got with FF miles). However, we are going in November/December which is off-peak.

I'd check the rates against the hotels' websites and also on pleasantholidays.com

As far as renting a car on all three islands - definitely do it. The HM will be my 3rd time on Oahu. The first time we didn't rent a car and even though the bus goes a lot of places and you can get taxis, it's a pain. Also, a lot of the stuff to see and do there is waaay cheaper to do it on your own rather than a tour. For example, we hiked up Diamond Head - it cost us the price to park (I think it was $6). If we had taken a tour offered to go to Diamond Head it would have been $30 per person! JMO, but I would rent the car.

Not only that but in Honolulu be careful bc some of the hotels charge you for parking a car.

Sounds high to me. I am staying 5 nights at the Four Seasons Maui and then flying to Honolulu for 5 more nights at the Kahala resort. Both hotels are 5 stars and I am paying less than what you mentioned.

It sounds average/high to me.
It also really depends on your flights (i.e. are they direct etc) and what kind of room view you have at the hotels (ocean v. parking lot).

We're paying under 5,00 including the inter island flights, upgraded cars and bkft included in 2 of 3 the hotels. Also staying at hotels that may be considered more expensive.

Try COstco.. that is where we found the best deal by far.

Good luck.. I am arriving in Hawaii as you are leaving!

It sounds amazing.

Make sure to go to a travel agent and see what kinds of packages they can come up with.
