For those of you who honeymooned in Hawaii, what are your thoughts on oceanfront vs. oceanview? My aunt (our travel agent) said that with oceanview you can get a speck of the ocean so it is not always worth the money. What do you think? I don't want to spend the money of ocean front if it is not necessary, but I also don't want to regret it later. Also, does anyone have any idea as to the likelihood of getting upgraded? I always read reviews where newlyweds were upraded and I don't want to spend the money on oceanfront, if there is a chance, I could get it anyway. BTW, we are staying at the Hyatts in Kauai and Maui.

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
I dont know about the Hyatts, but I stayed at the Sheraton and we were upgraded. I think its pretty common to upgrade from ocean view, to ocean front. I doubt there is too much difference between them though.

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
We stayed at the Hyatt in Maui and had a partial oceanview- it was basically the view of the mountains and partial ocean. We didn't get an upgrade but did receive a bottle of champagne from the hotel as a congratulations. I am not sure if it is worth the $$$ to upgrade since we were not in the room all that much. The hotel itself is very beautiful. If anything try to get your breakfast for free versus getting oceanview room. Food is not cheap in Maui.
Good luck and you will have an absolutely wonderful time in Hawaii

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
When we were there it must have been very busy because we did not get upgraded at all. We also stayed at the Hyatt in Maui and we liked the view (Regency Club oceanview) but the hotel itself was too busy for our taste. Too many kids running around and just basically too crowded.
I would not count on being upgraded if you stay at the Hyatt. I know the Sheraton had availability (we were thinking of switching hotels) so you might get an upgrade there. If you think you will spend a lot of time in your room, then get oceanfront. If not, oceanview should be good.
