What tours are you pre booking? How far in advance are you booking them? We already booked out luau and the catamaran tour of the Napali Coast. We want to do a few more and I think we should do it soon.

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
We haven't booked anything yet. When we went in October '07 we booked a few things (the luau, the shark cage dive, the horseback riding in Haleakala, the day trip to Lanai to go 4-wheeling) about a month or so in advance.
This trip, we are probably going to do a zipline (haven't decided whether on Maui or Kauai) and that may be the only thing we do in advance - except for dinner reseravtions on Thanksgiving!
We didn't book a tour to Pearl Harbor last time we went. We had rented a car and drove ourselves there (just go early in the morning - the line gets very long).

Only thing we have pre-booked so far is the helicopter tour on the Big Island.
Do you have to pre-book luaus??? And if so, where did you do them? We'll be on Maui and Kauai, so want to go to luaus on both islands.

We pre-booked our luau when we went last time. I researched and researched and researched it. All of my research pointed to the Old Lahaina Luau on Maui. We booked it about 6 weeks before we went which was good because we were able to get a 'table' seat instead of a floor mat seat. I really didn't want to sit on the floor for a couple of hours. I highly recommend doing a luau at least once - I don't know if we would do it again - we liked it but it's a lot of $$$ and the food is just really so-so.
One tip - you're paying for an open bar -even though the drinks are watered down and very weak, do yourself a favor and take a taxi if you're not doing one at your hotel. One of the hotel workers gave us that helpful hint, and it came in really handy. It cost a couple of bucks but it was so worth it to know we could both have a couple of cocktails and not worry about driving back to the hotel.
We did not do a luau on Kauai. The Grand Hyatt where we stayed (and we're staying again) has one on their property. When we went, we were told that we could make reservations for it the day of.
