Hawaii Honeymooners

I am starting to look into what activities we would like to do. Does anyone have any suggestions? Things that are good, things that are not worth it. Let me know.

TIA!

We are planning on going to Hawaii but haven't booked yet. FMIL is talking about a Hawaii cruise. Has anyone ever heard of this?

I could be wrong but the last I heard, only Norwiegan Cruise Line does the Hawaii cruises and they are very limited throughout the year. But they are possible.

We'll be going to Maui as well. We haven't booked anything yet but we will soon. However my co-worker strongly recommends the Old Lahaina Luau (Maui). For Oahu, there's Pearl Harbor... we're going to plan to go for the day.

Oahu:

Must do: Pearl Harbor/USS Missouri, snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, hanging out on Waikiki Beach, maybe take a surf lesson. Most amazing thing we did: shark cage dive! There are 2 companies that do this on Oahu. If you do this use Hawaii Shark Encounters - NOT North Shore Shark Adventures. On our HM we are doing underwater scooters. I don't know how it is yet, but I'll let you know.

The Polynesian Cultural Center is on Oahu also. We didn't like it. We thought it was a giant tourist trap and not worth the $$$ at all.

Maui:

We did the horseback riding trip into Haleakala instead of the bicycle trip down the side. I loved it! FH liked it for the first 2 hours - after that he was in pain. It's about a 6 hour trip so if you're not used to riding, I don't suggest it. We are thinking about doing the bicycle trip this time around (I've done it before but FH hasn't). The big thing is to go up to see the sunrise at Haleakala. A lot of tour companies offer this trip. It leaves VERY early in the morning (2:30-ish) and it's freezing cold. The one we went on served us breakfast and gave us blankets. The sunrise was definitely beautiful. However, a few days later, FH and I drove up to the crater late afternoon and stayed for sunset. We had some snacks in a cooler in the car. We stayed up there and watched sunset (which looks exactly the same as sunrise), had some cheese and crackers and it was super-romantic and waaaaaay cheaper to do it that way. Plus, it wasn't as crowded. I felt like it was more just the 2 of us.

Also on Maui: take a snorkeling trip to Molikini or Lanai. You're getting married in January so you will be there during whale season. You HAVE to do a whale watching boat ride. It's an experience you won't forget.

You also should hike diamond head while on Oahu. It's pretty cool and there's a trailer in the parking lot at the end of the trail that sells the best shave ice!

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners

We're taking out honeymoon in Hawaii this September. So far, this is what we've planned...

Big Island - helicopter tour over the volcanoes - we're taking Blue Hawaiian. They are supposed to be the best.

Maui:
- Snorkeling - we're using Trilogy. It's a 6-hour tour where they serve b'fast and lunch. You go snorkeling and then sail back to the beach. If you book online, you get 10% discount.

- Luau - we're doing it at our hotel (the Hyatt) so we can drink and not worry about driving.

- Drive to Hana - it's a full day but supposed to be beautiful.
