Hawaii Hotels: What Would You Do?

Hawaii Hotels: What Would You Do?

Here's my dilemma - what would you do? I have the following two Hawaii itineraries:

5 nights Maui @ the Westin
4 nights Kauai @ the Sheraton

the second option is a few hundred more, but its at all Hyatts. I'm still awaiting an exact price from the TA but its approx. $500-$800 more than the Westin/Sheraton. BUT it includes breakfast at both. The above trip includes breakfast only at the Sheraton.

On one hand, I want to save money where I can. On the other hand, it is my HM and the trip I'll remember forever.

What would you do?

My friend stayed at the Westin and said it was awesome!

Why kind of rooms do you get for that price?

At the Westin its a garden view; Sheraton is partial O/V.

I stayed at the Hyatt in Maui and I loved it. The breakfast buffet was AWESOME and we had it included, otherwise it would have been around $60 per day for breakfast. I say go with the Hyatts.

Hi -

I stayed at the Sheraton in Kauai. It was fine. Don't me wrong, its not as luxurious as some of the other hotels - but its not a dump either. we had a lot of outdoor activities planned in Kaui so for us it worked out great.

In Maui i stayed at the 4 Seasons. If you can swing that - I HIGHLY recommend it. That was the part of the trip where we were lazy and did lots of sitting on the beach and they bring EVERYTHING to you.

That being said though - I love Westins. We stayed at the Westing San Fran before heading to Hawaii and service was also fab.

FM if you need further info.

We are staying at the Hyatt in Kauai. I will give you a full report in May.

We're staying at the Westin in Maui, I've heard good things about it.

Everyone tells me though that you HAVE to stay at the Hyatt in Kauai (from analysts I deal with to friends and coworkers). We aren't, we're staying at a timeshare there, but, otherwise we would.

Could you do a combo of both and only spend slightly more?

We just had the same issue, however we are only going to Maui. We were deciding between the Westin and the Hyatt. We ultimately went with the Westin. A few people I work with went to the Westin and said it was wonderful. It also is closer to the Whaler Beach Village and I've heard it has more beach front sand area. I asked the travel agent why the Hyatt was $600 more and he said he thought it was more b/c the Hyatt chain is more reputable.

P.S. Some people at work also stayed at the Hyatt and also said it was wonderful. Check some reviews on Tripadvisor.com. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong w/ either one.

So how much sense does this make? I figured the Westin in Maui and the Hyatt in Kauai would be right in the middle...cheaper than the two Hyatts but more than the Westin/sheraton combo I've currently got.

WRONG! Westin/Hyatt combo is actually more than if I did two Hyatts. Sometimes these things make no sense to me...

I'm still torn though.
