Has anyone ever actually been to hawaii and can tell me which 2 islands are the best -- I was thinking maui and kaui (or however you spell it) I heard Oahu is like nyc with a beach across the street. Any recommendations on the hotels and islands? Thanks ahead!

I was just there in Sept. If you are looking for relaxation, beaches and slow paced I would say Maui or Kauai. You are right Oahu is like being in NYC...not my idea of a vacation.
We stayed in the Vally Isle Resort condos in Maui at the recommendation of a friend and LOVED it. We paid $150 a night for basically a one bedroom apartment, which was like 50 feet from the beach. Since the food in Hawaii is so expensive we cooked breakfast and lunch in the apartment and just went out for dinner.
If you are going to stay in Kauai I would recommend NOT staying in the Sheraton. FH and I had a horrible experience there (a 3 inch long roach on our shower curtain being the tip of the ice berge). If you have any questions let me know.

I did my research and talked to many people, and everyone said Maui and Kauai were the best - so that's what we are doing. Oahu is very commercialized...not exactly how I want to spend my honeymoon. I also heard that Lanai was very romantic but expensive and there really isn't much to do but lay out all day! I found a brand new timeshare at the Westin's new North Tower for $1800 for the week...originally we had the Hyatt in Maui...so now just staying at the condo and then Hyatt in Kaua!
