This is probably a stupid question BUT How do you get from island to island? Is it a very little plane?

Re: Hawaii Question
Yes! We just returned...if you have time! Do not do 3 islands unless you have at least 2 weeks .. Even though it is a 45 minute flight...you still have to check out, return rental car, stand on security, wait for the plane, get luggage, get rental car, find hotel, check in...it takes the ENTIRE day!!!
If I could do it over again, we both agreed only Maui and Kauai...we did 3 islands in ten days!! which really only gave us 6-7 days which is just not enough!
Usually you fly in between on Island Air, a small plane.

Re: Hawaii Question
Actually, it depends on where you are going. From Honolulu to Kona, we flew Hawaiian Air. It was a normal size plane. From Kona to Maui, we flew Island Air which was a smaller propeller plane. From Maui to Honolulu to go home we flew Hawaiian Air again and it was a decent size plane. We did three islands in ten days, but it wasn't that bad. We were still able to see all of the stuff we wanted to and relax a little, too. Hope you enjoy your trip!

You did 5 airports in ten days??? JFk to Honolulu or was it straight on to the next plane to Kona??
We wanted to see Pearl Harbor, Drive the road to Hana, do the 2 mile hike on Halieakala , do the sunrise, helicopter ride, if you want to just sit and relax at the resort, I think then it would be enough, but if you want a mixture of both, for us it wasn't ! We know we wont be back for awhile, I wish I listened to everyone and did at least 2 weeks or, only 2 islands in ten.

Re: Hawaii Question
Yes you take smaller planes. When we were there, there was so much in the news about the Super Ferry that would take you from island to island, but we never followed up on it to see if it is still running.

Re: Hawaii Question
I am guessing you already booked your trip but one way of doing it is to go on a Hawaiin cruise like we are. This way we sleep on the boat and when we wake up we are at the next island. I hate flying on regular jets I can't imagine going on one of those little planes.

Re: Hawaii Question
We flew nonstop to Honolulu and spent only one full day there. We went to Pearl Harbor and the beach one day. The day we left, we hiked Diamondhead in the morning and then flew to Kona. On Kona, we went to Volcano National Park, Coffee Plantations, toured to the top of Mauna Kea, swam with the Dolphins, and spent some time relaxing. On Maui, we drove the road to Hana, went to the Maui Ocean Center, and relaxed a bit. We then flew nonstop from Honolulu home. There were probably things we missed, but we really enjoyed our trip.
