Re: hawaii questions?
we are going on our honeymoon and have never been before, so not sure if this is helpful.
We are going to Maui for 7 days and the big island for 7 days.
Here is what I have heard/read about the islands: Khuai (spelling?) - the most quiet of all the islands, great for nature, hiking, horseback riding, etc, but not as much nightlife/restuarants
Oahu - Honolulu is a major city, similar to major cities anywhere, I was advised if I went to Oahu to go to Waikiki which is a major tourist area, tons to do and tons of beautiful beaches
Maui - tons of touristy stuff and restaurants, etc. Lots of great beaches but also lots to do
Big Island - has the only active volcano where you can see real lava flow (I am sooo doing this!!!). Not as developed as Maui but has more in terms of shopping/restaurants/etc than Khuai
Again, never been myself so don't just take my word for it. I have been reading up a lot on it though!

Re: hawaii questions?
Oh, I was also advised not to try to do too many islands because it does take a bit of time to check in/check out of hotels, go to the airport, etc.
People I have talked to have recommended 2 islands for a 2 weeks stay or 3 at most.

Re: hawaii questions?
I bought a book that was really helpful (under $20)
It is Pauline Fromer's guide - something like guides for budget travelers or something....

Re: hawaii questions?
For a honeymoon go to Maui for the longest-resorts, restaurants and tons to do. Do the bicycle trip down the mountain at sunrise, its a must. There are some great places to stay, Westin has great recommendations.
Big Island-the volcanos (give yourself at least a day here)are there and the black sand beaches other than that its empty. Be careful where you go, some of the areas can be touchy. It takes a long time to get around the big island its lots of driving. The Hapuna Beach Hotel is nice. Lots of hiking and outdoors stuff
Oahu-its a big city. My FH's family lives there. Go to Lanikai Beach its on the eastern shore. Its hard to find ask for Kailua. The north shore is fun to visit (sunset beach, hanuma beach part gets packed but its beautiful) there are lots of little places to eat. Check out the shave ice at Matsumotos in Haiwai. Go to Dole Pinapple factore for a dole whip cone...mmmm delicious.
Kauai- i went last year. There is not shopping really mostly outdoors things. Go to the natioinal park and do some hiking called Waimea National park. Stay on the north shore-princeville area. Really pretty. Becareful though it takes a long time to travel aroudn the island only one lane going each way.
have fun and Fm me with any quetions and I will ask my FH again hes been to all these places; hes a big hawaiian himself

Re: hawaii questions?
The Hyatt regency in Oahu is really nice. Its just across the street from the main part of Waikiki right in the middle of shopping and all that jazz. It was actually one of the places we considered getting married at.
I don't know much about the Hyatt in Maui or on the other islands.
I would stay the longest on Maui, JMO. Its more of a honeymoon kinda place. Actually what are you looking for? I should ask that before I say that Maui is best for a honeymoon. Sorry!!!

Oh I forgot to tell you. Pearl Harbor is on the island of Oahu. The big island is called the island of hawaii. The big island has the volcanos and the black sand beach. Oahu has pearl harbor, waikiki and has the capital city of honolulu.

Maui..... beautiful Kauai has some too kinda off the beaten trail can be hard to find for us tourists. Oahui's beaches in Waikiki are so crowded. I would venture to the north shore or to lanikai for more romantic beaches

Don't worry I am still trying to figure it out and I go every year. No big deal. Yes Honolulu is in Oahu, its the capital city of the state of Hawaii not to be confused with the island of Hawaii. The Island of Hawaii is also called the 'big Island' its the biggest in size.
