Hawaii: Where are you going & how much are you paying?
My TA has now given me a really high price quote and I'm shopping around. So if you don't mind, please tell me which hotels (and islands) you are going to and how much you are paying?
I really appreciate your help, and don't mean to pry.

All I do is speak to TA now. I REFUSE to believe this trip is going to cost me $10K before I have a cocktail. I am looking to Stay in Kauai, Princeville hotel and Maui--either te Fairmont or the Grand Walea
And I looked at Hyatts and they are just as expensive. Let me know what you come up with .

Our trip (2 nights in Oahu and 8 nights in Maui) cost us with everything around $8500. Hotels, air, food, drinks, car, and excursions.

I am not spending $10,000 we are spending around $5400. But that's not including meals and drinks Etc. It includes breakfast at all the hotels we are staying at. If you want to stay at he most expensive hotel then u will pay $10K.

I found the Hyatt in Maui to be expensive too. What did you do and where did you stay? TIA

Re: Hawaii: Where are you going & how much are you paying?
I am doing the Hawaii trip a little different. I am going on a cruise of all the islands. First, we leave from San Fran, CA and sail to Monteray (which is supposed to be like Napa-- really pretty). Then we sail to Hawaii (they have all different packages and a million different cruise lines that go there). We went with Norweigan. They even have one trip that goes to another island that is right near Fiji and is supposed to be gorgeous. Our itinerary goes to all the islands... it's 12 days long but they have shorter ones. You can choose to stay extra days in Hawaii once it's over or fly early to CA and see San Fran more. This was the cheapest way to see Hawaii because with food and hotels (esp food on an island which is very $$ b/c its all imported) it would have been too much. This way, the food is on the ship and we stay on the ship as well. They even have plans where you start out in Hawaii and end up in CA. Total cost of the trip which includes and an overnight (we are going a day early to CA to see San Fran) and a day later--we are staying one more day after the cruise on the Big Island. including air fare (to CA on the way there, from HI on the way home so it's only a long flight going home not both ways) for an upgraded room with a balcony is $7000. We just couldn't decide on what islands to see and what not to see so we thought this would be the best way. Our trip is 15 days total. Good luck with the planning--hope you have a great time!!

I have been looking also. I have found that if you don't go with Ocean view rooms and have a garden view room the price is very different.
I would love to hear more of where people are staying or if people have any reviews of hotels in Maui and Kauai.
Any reviews on the Shereden? (SP?)

i've heard the sheraton in kauai is nice, so long as you don't stay in the garden view rooms. apparently, those are across the street from the beach in a separate building and are a little run down. i've also been told you can hear all sorts of street noise and roosters (! - thought that was odd) from there.
But their resort fee also includes a lot, so I'm told: bfast daily, luaus, mai tai cockatail hour, hula lessons and lei making.

I would definitely shop around. We spent 15 nights in Hawaii, stayed at the BEST hotels, and didn't pay that much, including rental cars (convertibles or Jeeps). We ended up booking with a AAA Travel agent, who saved us a couple of thousand dollars even after we added 4 nights to our trip.
One word of advice: We paid for Garden view rooms and got upgraded at every hotel since we were on our honeymoon.
And to the other person that mentioned Roosters in Kauai, they are EVERYWHERE...about the only place we didn't hear them is from our hotel.

Those are some of the most expensive hotels in Hawaii, so 10k isn't that much out of the ballpark. I would try and stay at your hotels for more than 5 nights..a lot of them do '6th night free' FH and I aren't doing that and are paying about 9k. We're staying at:
Big Island-Hapuna Prince Maui-Four Seasons Kauai-Hyatt
We're have great rooms (ocean view), so that's making it pricier for us too.

Re: Hawaii: Where are you going & how much are you paying?
I was able to get 10 nights at the Westin in Maui for $5k which includes a car and breakfast everyday in an ocean view room. This also includes R/T air fare in coach.
I used Costco Travel Services to book my HM. They were really nice and helped me compare the hotels in ther area.
ETA: We used FI starwoods point to upgrade to Ocean view.

I am staying at two Hyatts, in Kaui and Maui. They are not as expensive as the other hotels you listed. They give you a great deal if you stay in two Hyatts (at least 7 days). I got Buffet breakfast, car rental, and other things. I am staying in Mountain view rooms, which are less expensive. If you pick a ocean view room, then yes, it will be expensive. Look into staying at two Hyatts.

Re: Hawaii: Where are you going & how much are you paying?
we stayed at the Sheraton in Maui...it was amazing!
I would definitely reccommend it. Great views, best snorkeling on all of the island - we saw a sea turtle and manna rays.
It's hard to get an ocean view room for less than $400/night in Maui.
I found that booking directly through the hotels I was able to get better deals that through a TA though.

We are staying in Maui for 5 nights (Fairmont), 1 night in some bungalo (FH knows all the details), and 5 nights in Kuai (Hyatt). We are paying about $9500.

We are also going to Hawaii on our Honeymoon-- we are staying at the Grand Wailea in Maui and then the Princeville and the grand Hyatt in Kauai. The TA's were actually slightly more expensive then booking everything ourselves. I recommend checking the websites--on a regular basis to catch the best price.
