Does anyone else watch this? DH and I just saw the season premiere (rerun) this past Saturday, and we watched the second episode last night.
I think it's so interesting to see what it's really like in Hollywood. Those poor kids are so naive, they think they are entitled to free cars when they should be focused on casting their movie
I'm soooo addicted to it now!

Re: HBO's Project Greenlight
My FH is a film maker and he loves that show. But he gets mad because he feels like they pick the punks. Oh well. Everyone's got their 15 minutes!

Luke and I watch it every week. Last years was also really good but a lot less professional than this one seems.

Darren and I are also very into this show. I don't miss a beat. My pick for film was not the one chosen, nor was my pick for director which I was a little disappointed in but I still love to watch it. I loved the begining because they were at Sundance and the Film Department at my school was there so I was always looking in the background to see if they made it into a shot.

Stef, what do you mean when you say this one seems more professional? I didn't see the first one at all, so I'm interested in the perspective you have...
Deb - what was your top pick for the screenplay/directors? Jeff and I were SHOCKED when they picked the team directors, but then Jeff said that they probably chose them purposely b/c the chance of them having a difference of opinion would make for better filming during the documentary.

Re: HBO's Project Greenlight
The winner of the first contest was both the writer and the director. He had ZERO experience in the industry (i think he sold insurance or something) and he seemed to be totally daft when it came to making the movie. Case in point, he scouted out a 'perfect' site for a scene right under an elevated train without realizing that the noise from the train was going to screw everything up. Of course, the 'management' didnt seem to help very much except to insult him behind his back when he did something wrong.
It was sort of sad b/c you saw the movie being really cheesy as it was created and you just knew it was going to **** (it did) but the writer/director seemed like a really sweet guy.
I guess he is back selling insurance.

Re: HBO's Project Greenlight
Thanks, Stef...now I understand the reference they were making to 'Pete's' level of experience.
I was reading a portion of the winning screenplay last night, and I have to say - it didn't really blow my skirt up. I am hoping that when it's all said and done, it's better than I have the impression of right now.
Also - how FUNNY were they with those stupid video offer letters????

Re: HBO's Project Greenlight
The offer letters were really cheesy but I dont know anything about Hollywood so maybe all that a$$ kissing will help them get someone good?
I have only read one screenplay. I was younger and it was for a movie that the couple I was babysitting for was editing. I read it and I swear I thought it was the stupidest thing EVER! I could not imagine that this movie could ever be good. Well that movie was A Bronx Tale which is one of my favorite movies. So for me at least, I dont bother reading screenplays b/c I just dont understand their translation to screen well.

Re: HBO's Project Greenlight
Stef, that is a great story! I, on the other hand, do have some experience reading/writing screenplays, so I guess I was expecting to be blown away by content and I just wasn't.
However, the version I was reading was 119 pages long, and I only read the first 25 - soooo, that is a lot of stage setting, character development. It's easy to see, since alot of movies (and even some books) don't really 'grab' you right away...some stories need time to pull you in.

Re: HBO's Project Greenlight
Stef - did you watch last night???
OMG, I almost PIMP when Chris' chair broke and he fell flat on his a$$ - that was so funny!
And, I cannot believe the directors are threatening to walk off the project! On one hand, I understand their disappointment. But, on the other hand - they can't just throw away an opportunity like that! I can't wait to see what happens next.
I'm such a dork, but I am really enjoying this show!
