Just popped into my head- does the reception place actually count how many people are at the wedding and if so, how do they count? I doubt everyone is sitting at the same time- or do they do it my dinner orders?
Say you give a final headcount and then 2 more people show up- will they pull you aside at the end of the night and ask you to pay up?
just curious, anyone have experience with this?

Re: Headcount- do they count?
I would think they would know because what if they have all the tables set up, what if you don't have enough chairs or something? That would be horrible

reception halls do DO head counts.
they usually count during the toast and at dinner time.

I would assume so...after years of restaurant work, I have to tell you that those waiters and such are much smarter than they get credit for...if they set up a party for 218 people, they can tell when 4 seats are empty rather quickly!

funny you say that about restaurant staff....
i had a professor that said, 'waitstaff people are so smart. 9 times out of 10 they are working on their MA or PhDs'. she said everytime she goes out she always asks what else they do besides waiting on tables.
so lets say there are 10 waiter and each gets two 10 tops. they know if one table has 9 people and another has 10.

They usually count plates. If they are serving 50 dinners and you only paid for 48 people they would as you to pay for 2 others. (This has been my experiance in the past with partys that I have run in the FD)

I worked at a place that did weddings. For sit down dinners they count and they asked for extra money at the end of the night.
I don't know if they did this for the buffet style service.

I would assume yes, as long as you are OVER the minimum...say you have a 100 minimum and paid up for 200 but 197 showed, I would like to think they'd give that back...but I do not know the real answer.

I hope this is true- that would be great. You just never know when people don't show up. I know i'll make my min, however i don't think they'll refund me for no-shows- I'll have to ask this. But if they'll ask for $$ if extra show they should def refund if your short...
