I also posted this on brides helping brides. A few people have recomended that I make my flowergirl headpieces out of artificial flowers. They think that if I make them myself, they will love them and iot will be very special. Now I feel like that would be a wonderful thing to do but I have NO idea where to start! Has anyone done this? Any suggestions?
I did my daughters for a friend's wedding and just sewed fabric calla lilies onto a wide ribbon. I then sewed hooks onto the other side of the ribbon so we could pin it into her hair. She was 3 at the time so it was nice and light for her head. You may want to follow the other directions if the girls are older because you may want the stiffness.

Good luck!

Re: headpieces for flowergirls
I didnt make a headpiece because I didn't have a FG but another idea if the headpiece doesnt work out is flowers on barrettes/combs/pins that can be worked into her hair at random.
I made gerber daisy haircombs for all of my BM's; super cheap and easy and it really POPPED in photos. I have pics in my DIY album. All you need is the flowers, some hot glue and whatever style hair ornament you prefer.

Flower in my MOh's hair. No one could tell they were fake and they lasted sooo much better than real flowers would have.

Re: headpieces for flowergirls
well i don't know if this helps, but my BM's dresses has rosebuds along the top...because i had a 'rose theme', when the seamstresses altered the BM dresses, i made them give me any of the rosebuds that were cut off...then all i did was hot glue them to a hair comb! they actually came out really cute! these aren't the best photos - but it gives u an idea...
