OK, grasping at straws, I know, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there who knows anything about the health insurance system in India. I'm working on a paper and am having a difficult time understanding what the governmental policies around insurance and reimbursement are, as well as how healthcare is delivered and paid for in India.....

Re: Health Insurance in India???
I don't know if this may or may not help you, but I know that they are trying to introduce birth control there, and the only way it has proven to work is door to door. Otherwise, the ladies dont' trust you... This is true for the rural areas. And despite education, preventative birth control is still not widely used. No clue on who pays for it, but thats a small sample of what I learned in my 'Developing Economies' economics class.

Re: Health Insurance in India???
I'm not positive about this, but as far as I know, my family does not have health insurance, and they are all well off/comfortable. I'm pretty sure they pay for all their medical bills in cash. I think health insurance is very costly, and not many people have it.
I have no idea what poor people in India do (and there are millions, and millions of them), I guess they must go to gov't hospitals.

Re: Health Insurance in India???
I dont' believe people have health insurance in india. my relatives don't.
Doctors make house visits to patient's houses. There aren't really doctor's offices usually. And then the DRs get paid at the end of his/her visit.
