Heard Bad Review of my photographer- what should I do??
Hi ladies...I have been a bit MIA last week since I am on jury duty, and have no computer access. While there I met a bride who used the photographer that I booked (Glenmar Studio). Basically, her review of them was not very good. She told me that she was told she could not give a list of must have photos, and that her 2 photographers missed a lot of pics that she wanted. She also said that there were not that many candid/artistic photos, which she wanted (and so do I), and that there was no shooting in black and white, so she has to convert any B&W pics she wants from color, which they charge extra for. In order to get the album the way she wants, they are charging her an additional 1k. Note that she had 2 photographers, I am only having one. Needless to say, I am freaked out. Normally I do not put this much stock in other peoples opinions, but this has always been a vendor that I have second guessed. Now I am worried. We have our engagement photos coming up- should I bring this up then? Any Glenmar brides w. advice? Thanks in advance!

Re: Heard Bad Review of my photographer- what should I do??
Sweetie, you should definitely bring it up, how else will it be avoided?? don't go quietly into the night, speak up, you are spending big bucks with these people. Why did you book them if you were so iffy with them? Your pictures and your video are the only thing, a part from my memories that you will have after the day, so do not take any chances with your pix. To put your mind at ease speak to them and about what the other bride told you as well. Do you have the same photographer as her??I would be concerned too, especially with you having one photographer, if they can't get all the shots with 2 people how will they get it with one. Speak to them and let them know your concerns.
All the best and let us know how things turn out
Happy planning

Re: Heard Bad Review of my photographer- what should I do??
I am a Glenmar bride and so far I have no complaints. I had my engagement photos done in August and they came out beautifully. If you have any questions or concerns, see if you can talk to the owner/manager. He may be able to help ease your mind.
Remember that every vendor will have good and bad reviews from time to time.
I feel very good about my decision to go with Glenmar.

It sounds like you should review your contract and make sure everything you want is in the contract. If you want black and white film have them include the number of rolls or shot of black and white you want in the contract. If you want composite pages in your album have that included in your contract. . Get this stuff taken care of before you go for your e-pix so there is no misunderstanding later. Thats what the contract is for. If you signed a contract already have it ammended.

Re: Heard Bad Review of my photographer- what should I do??
I am def. going to bring it up with them when I have my engagement pics done. I guess I am just wondering what the tactful way to do this is. As for second guessing, I planned way in advance so I have had second thoughts after booking with them, but at the time I thought that they were great, and they do have an excellent reputaiton. I am hoping that this is something I can be reassured on and reminded of why I booked them in the first place. Karen, this woman also said her e-pics were wonderful, but her wedding photos were not what she thought they would be. She said that the photographers who did her wedding were not the same as the one who shot her e-pics. Was that the case for you as well?

Dear hmichick i understand how you fell when you hear a bad review about a vendor, but dont jump to conclusions.I would take the time to look into it in everyway.See how some people had nice things to say about them. Not knowing the full story what happen i was not there. But one person should not make you decide to drop them.Call the BBB to see if they have anything on them.Hope i could help

Re: Heard Bad Review of my photographer- what should I do??
From what I know of Glenmar is that they are probably more traditionalist photographers and not photojournalism. I'm sure they will do a great job with the traditional wedding pictures but it sound like you want photojournalistic style which is not their forte. My friend and her sister who used them for her wedding were very happy with their pictures. When I went to see them I asked about black & white pictures and they definetly tried to dissuade you from getting them saying that they can easily convert color to B&W (never said it would cost extra though) and that B&W film tends to give a grainy effect - to satisfy my request they wrote on my package that they would shoot 1 roll of B&W. I would contact them as soon as possible to discuss your concerns - maybe they can pair you up with a photographer who likes to do more candids. Make sure you talk to the owner/manager - someone who has power to do something. Good luck.

Re: Heard Bad Review of my photographer- what should I do??
The owner of the studio shoots the engagement photos, so yes, I will have a different photographer shoot the wedding.I have everything in writing in regards to what I want. I didn't want a lot of b&w photos, so they are only shooting 1 roll worth.
Whatever you want, just make sure to get it in writing.

Re: Heard Bad Review of my photographer- what should I do??
I just booked with Glenmar. I asked before i signed with them to make an appointment with the photographer that will be doing the wedding, and she said it was fine. I had told her that i wanted to talk to the photographer about things i wanted for the wedding and she said it wasnt a problem and to call and make an appointment to see him. I think you should bring it up to them. they seemed very reasonable to me.

Re: Heard Bad Review of my photographer- what should I do??
I am a Glenmar bride (I was married in May) and I have no complaints what-so-ever about them. I was most certainly able to give a list of must have photos, and we told our photographer up front we wanted him to be as unobtrusive as possible, and take lots of pictures at the reception. We ended up with tons of great candid shots that were were grateful to have because obviously we could not see the entire wedding going on at all times. We were told up front about the black and white, and agreed to have any pictures we wanted in black and white made from color. So that was no big deal to us. We are actually having our 11x14 potrait done in B&W, and having a splash of color handpainted in on my flowers for effect. The prices to do this were not a surprise at all, because it is listed right on the bottom of the contract.
Our album was at no additional cost. If she was charged an additional $1000, then she had to have some sort of additional feature added. We got exactly what we expected with no additional charges.
We love our pictures. We ended up getting many more enlargements to give to our bridal party as gifts, so we did end up paying additional fees for these extra photos. But we couldn't be happier.
When you go in for your engagement shoot, talk with Barry (he will most likely be doing your engagement shot). Be straight and blunt with him. We were and were ended up having a great relationship through it all (which means we were getting what we wanted with out a worry!).
Don't second guess. Not everyone has the same vision of a color, so the opinions you heard are just that. Good Luck.

Re: Heard Bad Review of my photographer- what should I do??
I used Glenmar for my wedding. Wasn't thrilled!!!! My friend used them last year and her photos were incredible so I thought I didn't have anything to worry about. My photographer thought he was a stand up comedian....not funny at all (rather annoying). We got married on the water and he took 3 shots of us with the water in the background. Only one of me and my father walking down the ilse. His shadow in some pictures, my dress not straightened out etc. My advice to you is probably what everyone else said. Make sure you spell everything out. Make the list of photos you want taken (my biggest regret), tell them where you want shots. Don't assume they have this amazing talent and will see the best places to shoot. You find them also. To be honest, I have been strongly considering getting dressed up again and going back to hall to have my sister take pictures if they let me.Haven't seen the video yet so no comment there except I really liked the videographer.
Engagement shoot photos are a joke!

Re: Heard Bad Review of my photographer- what should I do??
Oh, thanks Tammy, that would be great, I would really appreciate it. Can you forum mail it to me? I feel kind of bad mentioning them by name, as they have been really nice to me, and this will all provbably work out, but I feel like I need to hear all sides (including the studios) before making my decision. Thanks again!
