Heat and Outdoor Ceremony!!!

Heat and Outdoor Ceremony!!!

Up until a few weeks ago, we've had so much rain on the weekends, that my biggest wedding worry was the rain. Now they are forecasting that Saturday will be the hottest day of the week, with high in the 90's. Our ceremony is at 12:30pm (about 30 mins). Should we consider doing it inside? We have about 8 or so elderly guests (age 60 and above). I was hoping for a garden ceremony which is the reason why we picked our hall, but I don't want anyone to faint and since my day is so soon (this sat), I don't think I have any time to get any fans/supplies to help keep people cool.

What do you girls suggest?

maybe you can buy small water bottles to be passed out to the guests?
I say if it doesnt rain, go for the outdoor ceremony.
30 minutes is not the end of the world !

My wedding day was in the 50's (quite chilly) and everyone was shivering for 30 minutes, but they did it !

follow your dream ceremony !
and try to make the best accomodations for those that you think will need it.

The water bottles are a great idea!! 30 minutes is not too long (just try to make sure it starts on time). I think with the water bottles all your guests should be fine. If you want outdoors, you should have it

oh, i know this is last minute, but a friend of mine had an outdoor ceremony in august, and she had those pretty fans, passed out to everyone. a few guests used them. i would do that OR the water bottles. you dont want them holding too much, bottle, fan, programs, lol.

My friend had an outdoor ceremony in August- it was so HOT- and they were on the water & it still was miserable.. Word to the wise- a 30 minute ceremony is long- but more often than not your guests will be waiting 20-30 minutes outside to get seated BEFORE you walk down the aisle... (i.e. you will be outside the shortest amount of time)... If there is any shaded area for the older guests, that would be best. My friend had sparkling water and lemonade passed out by waiters for the 20 minutes prior to the ceremony actually starting....

Can you have a tent?

I don't think hand fans and water are good enough for an hour+ in the peak sun.

Portable fans might be too load.

Re: Heat and Outdoor Ceremony!!!

Just to clarify a layout a little bit:

The hall has a 'veranda' like structure, so cocktail hour is 'served' inside, but there are cocktail tables both inside and outside, on a small patio.

Extending from the patio is the walkway to the ceremony area, ect. So I am expecting guests to do whatever they feel comfortable with, including staying in the 'inside area' for cocktail hour...

Does this make sense.

I can't have a tent, but I can have a ceremony inside, if its too too hot. But I prefer not too. In theory, guests don't have to be in the sun for more than 30 mins, not over an hour.

Is there a place in the city to purchase these fans inexpensively? At the last minute?

Water bottles and those nice spanish hand fans would be nice. What about some of the tissue packs too?

Alina go on broadway between 28th and 33rd streets. Vendors sell stuff by the dozen there and with no tax. Go up and down Bwy and in between the streets. Someone may have it there.

I think you can expect to have your guest in the sun for 45-1 hour. between them being seated, the ceremony, etc. You're looking at an hour. Not only your guests but your BP and YOURSELF/Groom will be dying in the suits and dresses.

Alina ... I would also opt for indoors in the air conditioning if it will be over 90. Especially for your elderly guests, who won't be able to tolerate the heat for that long. I know that you're heart is set on it, but it might be the better way to go. Also, if its that hot, you will also be sweating... which means hair & makeup running. Think of your pictures. You can always go out after the ceremony with Lea & take pics. It will be beautiful any way you do it! Can you make this decision last minute, They probably won't be setting up until the morning, so maybe a phone call the night before to let them know what you've decided.

I was at a wedding last July in the heat & it was miserable. The guests were sweating & complaining ... they had only an outside cocktail hour. so I would also recommend that if there is going to be seating inside (which your guests will appreciate!), that they put out quite a few tables as most people will choose to sit where its cool.

Good luck, sweetie!
You have fm!

Re: Heat and Outdoor Ceremony!!!

I guess we'll decide the day off what we'll do. We're already taking pictures outside, before the ceremony, so I'll be sweaty no matter what.

Thank you everyone for advice. I'll look into the water bottles and the fans. only 3 more days
