Hedges - Proper Etiquette???

Hedges - Proper Etiquette???

Hedges divide your driveway from your neighbor's driveway.

The hedges are about 7 ft. tall .. and about 3 ft. wide.

To keep the monster hedges trimmed ..

1 - It is up to both neighbors to get what's within their reach

OR

2- It is up to the person whose property on which the hedges are growing

I'm not sure, but I would assume that it's 2, unless of course the other person is bothered and feels the need to trim them.

#2 - it is illegal to prune hedges or trees on another person's property. You can trim branches on trees that hang onto your property, but that is it! (well unless they give you permission - I guess)

Growing up my dad had hedges along both sides of our yard and he always pruned them, of course w/ the neighbor's permission (they appreciated him doing the work).

I believe my dad would stand on a ladder so he could get the the top as far far back as it wnet on the neightbor's side, but anythign that was poking throught the fence, was up to them.

Does that make sense?

Let me see if I understand:

So hedge owner needs to go onto the other person's property to properly trim the hedges which are unreachable from hedge owner's side????

Please Note:
These hedges divide the driveways of two houses, but 'technically' they are rooted on one person's property.

NO. Well, at least that's not what my dad does. He would do all of the typos, but not the side that faces their property. He'd have to go through their gate to do that.
I have to say thoguh, I wouldn't want to cut someone else's edges

Agh, I researched this quite a few months ago.
You can cut anything that is hanging over your property line.

Generally, if you own them, you cut them. In our town, it is the property owners' responsibility to trim their hedges. However, if they grow on to a neighbor's property, the neighbor can cut the overhanging portion.
