Heelllpp! I need Potty Training advice...

Jordan is going to be 3 on March 26th, we've been trying to get him to go on the potty for what seems like forever now. He has absolutely no interest in it at all. I've tried giving him treats when he goes on the potty, we've tried making making a big deal about it (dancing around and looking like fools), but nothing is working. Any advice? and how old were your kids when they were finally potty trained?

I'm not at this stage yet, but I know my sister had a problem with my nephew potty training him at the same age as your son. He had no interest in it at all and she tried to get him interested in it by buying him 'big boy pants' that he picked out, etc. But he kept peeing and pooping in them, so that went out the window. She finally backed off on the peeing aspect and he just kept telling her when he had to go. As for the pooping, that was a big problem and he didn't want to be bothered! He would tell her 'the poopies aren't ready' and walk away!! He FINALLY decided to go on his own after his 4th b'day!!! I think he was afraid because he used to hold it in on purpose so that he wouldn't go on the potty and when he finally went, it hurt him.

I'm telling you, these kids are too funny!!!

I know I didn't help you at all, I just wanted to let you know you're not the only one having a problem with a 3 year old boy!!! From my aunts and my cousins I learned that it was harder to train the boys then the girls. But I think each kid is different!!

Good luck!!! (Sorry I babbled on and on!!)

Edited to say: March 26 is my nephew's birthday also!! He'll be 5!!

Re: Heelllpp! I need Potty Training advice...

Justin turned 3 in December and is now potty trained - thank god!!!

These are things that have worked for me: get the Bear in the Big Blue House - When You've Got to Go video, also Potty Training for Him (this is a little explicit - but it works). Both worked wonders for us. I also got and read the book version of Bear to him everyday. He also likes to bring a book into the potty with him and read - 'Just like Daddy ' What worked best was just putting underwear on him and telling him he was a big boy now and big boys go on the potty. When he asked for a diaper I told him he could only wear one at night. You will have a few accidents in the beginning but it all worked out for us within a week. The important thing is not to switch from underwear back to diapers. I've read that this will only prolong it.

I have also had a girlfriend of mine tell me this trick. She taught her son to use the potty standing up. He on ly sat when he had to do #2. So she would throw a few cheerios into the toilet, kind of like a target for him to aim for and taught him how to go that way. I have no experience with this, but its just another suggesstion.

I hope this was helpful to you in someway. Good Luck!!! And remember if he doesn't want to go right away, don't force no one has ever gone on to college with out being potty trained!
