Hello All-

Hello All-

After some for-thought and really nice FM's (learning the lingo). I decided to stay on the Forum as well as use the site.
This is a question I have for myself and needed some info about.

As a child I grew up a Jehovah's Witness (stopped going when I was 18). I've never attended a church (service, wedding or otherwise). I am not knowlegable on how things work in the church. I am sure they are 'VERY' different than how weddings are done at Halls.

Furture in-laws are Roman Catholic at this time I dont practice any specific religion. What is a Catholic wedding like?

I'm happy you are staying.......

I am also happy you are open minded and accepting enough to understand why some of us, and I will admit, myself included, will sometimes jump to conclusions. Thanks for staying

Um...Catholic wedding....well...we are having the long mass..You can do just a ceremony..but its tradition in my family to do the mass.

You don't necesarrily have to convert, but they may make you take a few classes, and you will have to do Pre Cana with your FH.

Depending on whether you choose a ceremony or the whole mass...it can go anywhere from 45 minutes..to over an hour.

Lots of standing and kneeling

I'm glad you decided to stay too. Catholic weddings are usually and hour long mass, with the wedding tied in. I was raised Catholic, but if I'm being honest, I find them to be on the boring side...but if someone's really religious, I can understand wanting to do it that way.

Re: Hello All-

YAY! Welcome!!

...Catholic Church

PreCana is necessary...which I hear is not that bad...some people actually learn a great deal from eachother over the weekend....you can choose to have either a full mass (45min-1hour) or a ceremony (like 20 min). You will choose a great deal of the prayers that are said and you choose people to read at the ceremony as well. Music I believe you work with the director of the church but I think they like to keep you to using music that celebrates the lord! It sounds like a lot to deal with....and it is...but it isn't horrible! Hope this helps! Good luck!

Re: Hello All-

With a catholic wedding you have a choice of just the ceremony which includes everthing that the full mass would have except the communion.

Full Mass- I specified above all reads and communion. Being that you are not Catholic your church may recommend to have just the cermony...its like 45 minutes long

Re: Hello All-

Full mass usually last around 1 hr- this includes the ceremony and full communion and all the readings.

Ceremony -last around 35 min.

You can convert if you want, but depending on the church it can take up to a year.

My fh is not catholic and at first he wanted to convert, but I originally didn't want to have a full ceremony b/c not everyone is catholic and I didn't want people to feel uncomfortable.

So we finally decided on have just the ceremony and he will convert when he has the time.

Glad to hear you decided to stay . As for me the Catholic end of it all was way too involved. I am agnostic so we decided to forgo the Catholic thing and get married at the hall instead.
It depends on your personal take on it.
I should step aside and let the girls that are going for it answer this one.
