I'm getting ready to call some reception places and I'm nervous - I don't know. Exactly what do I say to them - just the standard - we're getting married and would like to make an appointment with you?
Is there anything in particular I should be discussing with them now over the phone or any questions I should be asking?

Re: Help...
You could ask price range, is it sit down vs buffet, that way if you know the price range, you can decide whether or not to make an appt. The lessings locations have prices on their websites.
Do you have a budget in mind? What I did was saw the range of extremes (least expensive to really expensive) and just listened. Based on what people were offering, I started to prioritize what is most important for me and then selected my venue accordingly.
It can be very overwhelming at first, but you'll get the hang of it once you see a few places and talk to people in charge.

Re: Help...
I would ask them questions regarding if the date is available, the price per person, is there a min amount of people you need to have. What's included in the price. And then if you're satisfied with those answers make an appointment with them.

Dont be nervous! Its fun! Do some research, I know someone posted a link, also try newsday.com under weddings of distinction, they have a list of halls that can help you decide what you are looking for! Then call, say you are getting married (if you have a time frame open you can inquire about specific days) and tell them you would like to make an appt. Good Luck! And enjoy it! We liked looking at places it was interesting!
ETS: we didnt ask about prices over the phone, I had done my research and felt I had a grasp on what it would be and I only called places I though we could afford. I didnt think they would give htat info over the phone, but if they will thats even better!!

Re: Help...
When I called around I asked primarily the price per head. Most places asked me what I wanted to spend and how many people would be invited. Then we went from there. The catering halls were really nice, for the most part and answered all the questions I hd as well as some FAQ's, they shared with me!

Re: Help...
Don't be nervous - this part is so much fun!! I used a magazine like the one someone attached in a link above to look at price ranges and see some pictures. Then I called and asked if I needed an appointment. Some did, some didn't. I didn't ask anything else on the phone. I wanted to see the places to see if I even liked them before I started with all the questions! Good Luck!!
