Help!

Help!

My boyfriend told me he wants to look for engagement rings. I'm so happy and blessed on one hand, but so upset on the other. I haven't made the wisest financial decisions and I just can't begin to figure out how we can even afford a wedding. One of my friends is getting married next month and it is just seems impossible for us.

I was thinking of just getting married in a church and have that be that.

Any thoughts??

Welcome to the board. It isn't easy paying for a wedding. Do you think either set of parents would be willing to help? The important thing is the ceremony, so if you can't afford to have a big wedding then go for the church wedding and a nice dinner out w/ family and close friends. Congratulations on your engagement plans...its a very exciting time!

Awww, I think you should go look at some rings, no one says you have to set a date immediately. Some people have long engagements to save some money. When you do get engaged then maybe you can talk to your familys and they can help. If not take your time, enjoy being engaged, and save!!!
My DH and I just got married and we paid for it ourselves. If we can do it anyone can, just budget wisely!!
Good Luck!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! That's such good news - and so exciting!

I agree - you can have a long engagement. My FH and I got engaged in October 2003 but the wedding isn't until September 2005. We are paying for the entire thing on our own so we needed the time to save. You can sit down together with your families to get an idea of the expenses involved and figure out how to budget. If it's do-able then you've got yourself a plan - if not then you know where you stand and can plan accordingly. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having just the church ceremony - you might even consider having cake and punch afterwards for guests if you'd like.
