I live in Maryland, but I am getting married on LI. Can anyone reccomend vendors? I have been in contact with a bunch of photographers, but I am still searching for florists, tents, music, caterers, etc....
I would appreciate any help anyone could give me. I am comming home in a few weeks for a week, so I want to see as many vendors as possible.

are you in Nassau or Suffolk county?? b/c i know when I went back east for appts, I tried to stay as local as I could..so just wanted to see about you..before I list some ideas for you..

I am going to see a bunch of photographers this week and next. I already saw Mark Kauffman, he was great. I love his stuff. He is a bit expensive but his photos are really beautiful. I can let you know how my other photographer appointments go. So far I have videos from East Coast band (lots of postings on the board) and am waiting on Get On Up's video. Both are around $4,000 as long as you call them directly. You can check the board for numbers. Laura's in Commack does beautiful flowers. James Crest does too but they are very high priced. I hope some of this helps you.
I am also planning from out of state. Do you have you location picked out yet? I have found that the people working at my catering hall have been really helpful to me in picking out additional vendors!
Also, what is your budget like? I want to give you recommendations that work for you!
well..for photographer..we went with Patken..very reasonable, and great work..we also checked out ADA studio (big john)we liked him, John from VIP, we had appts with cassarino, proline & paul marino but canceled them..for DJ we went with Tommy Tunes..they are awesome..we thought the best!! and for video we have Platinum Productions..we checked out T&T..very good too..and JR Video..good luck..most are in suffolk county too!!!
The reception is at Gristina Vineyard. It is so beautiful, but I have to get everything myself (from silverware to food). They gave me a few reccomendations but I want to make sure that I am checking out several places. I am not sure about the price range. I am still working that out with my parents. I want to keep the wedding under 30k.
You can also try Christine Spellman. She was requimended to us by another couple that used her. She's in Deer Park, Suffolk County. If you want info you can e-mail me. We found her to be very professonal, easy going, fun and her work is great!!!Exactly what we where looking for!!!
With a budget of 30K on Long Island you are going to need to set some priorities. Are you going to keep the food somewhat simple, and buffet style? If so, you will have a lot more to work with for the rest. If it is important to you to have sit down meal, you will need to make trade offs elsewhere -- Smaller guest list, DJ instead of band, minimal flowers... Either way, it sounds like a gorgeous location. I bet it will be fantastic!
Just to give you an idea, I know some of the photographers people have mentioned can cost around $4000. A band would at least $5000. Of course it can be done for less...
I don't think you mentioned how many guests you were planning -- that makes a huge difference!!!
It's true the photographers and bands are about $5K each. Mark Kauffman does not charge you for albums up front so that can help with budget issues. I am saving money by not getting really expensive invites and doing smaller favors. A DJ instead of a band can save you close to $3K or more.
I'm using Jeffery studios in Nesconset Photo and Digital Video are 4,500.00. The Quality is great, we were shocked when we got the prices from him. You should check him out he also is a recommended by the Watermill. We aren't having our reception there but were happy to hear that.
As for Flowers we are using Designer Florals which is in Westbury (Nassau) but she works only on Weddings, special events. My cousin and sister in law used her and we loved the work. We also got a great price all of the flowers including the favors (vases full of flowers as part of the center piece)7BM's 1 FG 1 jr BM, mine. Also we have 7 boutonnieres and 5 wrist corcages. We are getting a silk arrangement for the mantel at home and this will double as out head table flowers. Rose petels on tables, cake table and piano. All for about 2700.00. Hello. My husband and I live in VA and planned our LI wedding from here, too. We went up almost every weekend for a year to interview vendors. Here is what we wound up with:
DJ=Tommy's Tunes in Seldon
Video-JR Video (he's in with Tommy)
Photos=Cassarino
Flowers=Flowers by RoseMarie in Sayville (she does it out of her home)
Limos=I think it was called Professional Limo in Holbrook
Reception=Miller Place Inn==HIGHLY recommended

First and foremost you need to decide on a reception location. If you plan to have it in a place other than a catering facility, start by finding a good caterer. I am renting out the Vanderbilt museum in Centerport and I am going with Stone Caterers. They are great! They are taking care of all the rentals except the tent. The best company for that is Nassau tent. It is not easy planning an outdoor wedding but its a great way to customize everything and really show your personality, from the place to the decor.
