So we booked our reception hall yesterday (North Ritz Club) for June 21, 2009, but we get a call from them to inform us that day is actually fathers day!!!! Ughhhh....So now I don't know if I should go for the 14th which is a bit earlier in the month then i would have liked, or the 28th which is the weekend before the 4th of July. I'm afraid people might be going away for that week since the 4th of July is the following weekend. What do you think?? Or do you think most people will probably just take longer 4th of july weekends??

July 4th would be the following Saturday? I dont' know. I think you could go either way. I would probably do it the week before though just to be safe. Many people do go away for the 4th.

I went to a wedding on Fathers Day. I dont see it as being a big deal.

I feel like the week before the 4th would be fine, because it is almost a full week. The following weekend would be the one people go away for. And if you send STD's the important people will be sure not to make plans that weekend; you have more than enough time to give them notice. However, that being said, if your family is OK having it on Father/s Day, then why not? If you have a dad you can do a little cake for him or something!

I don't see why it would be a big deal having a wedding on Fathers Day? If that is the day you want, then I say you should go for it!
And by the way, the North Ritz Club is wonderful! I am having my reception there as well!

I'd avoid the weekend before 7/4 more than father's day....
I'm ALWAYS away that week.... People always extend trips to 7/4, since it gives them increased vacation time....

I don't think it is a big deal to have a wedding on Father's Day IMO....I think it is weird they would even mention it unless they have some sort of bruch...I would keep that day.

I agree! So many people take vacation the week leading up to the 4th.

I totally agree. I don't see the problem with it being Father's Day! People can celebrate it the day before or after! YOU'RE getting married! I wouldn't change it. JMO

If you really want to move your date i think it would be better the week before because i would assume traveling (like honeymoon) might be more expensive the week of 7/4

I might be in the minority here, but Father's Day is an important day to some people....my friend got married on Father's Day and I would have been pretty annoyed about having to be gone from 8 AM til after midnight (I was a BM) on that day if my dad hadn't been invited to the wedding!
If it's not a big deal to you, it might not matter - just something to consider....

What's wrong with the 14th? Is there a reason you don't want it that early in the month? It doesn't seem all that different to me than the 21st, unless you're thinking about schools being over or something. I don't think the Sunday before the 4th is a good idea--as everyone said, many, many people take vacation that week.
