I am having an issue with my bm dresses...basically one of the girls was late getting in to order her dress, the cut off was 7/22 (wedding in December), on the contract it states 'please be advised, if dress orders are not completed by 7/22, a rush fee of $35 will be applied to each dress order'. Now when I read this I assumed that it meant that if someone ordered the dress late they would have to pay a rush fee, however I was informed today that they will charge the fee to ALL of the girls, even though they all ordered in time. The girl who is late called the store the other day to make an appointment and they told her that she would have to pay a rush fee, and she was like that's fine I understand, but again, assuming that SHE would have to be the one to pay for her dress, not EVERYONE! Now I don't know what to do, the store is telling me that it's a fee applied by the designer, I told the manager that there's no way I am asking the girls to pay this, I am not paying it, and the girl who was late is not paying it for everyone...
Has anyone else ever heard of this? I feel that this was not explained to me entirely, if I had known that this was going to happen I would have made sure this girl ordered it on time!!!
I am thinking of canceling and trying to find another store to order the dresses through...

Re: help!!!!!!!!!
thats insane!! i have never heard of such nonsense and i dont belive the bridal shop for a second that its a manufacturers charge. its believable for the one dress that is being ordered 2 weeks late, but all of the dresses!! no no no that it the bridal shop trying to pull some crap and scam you out $35 x however many bridesmaids you have. i have a sneaking suspicion i know what bridal shop this is but its not nice to assume so i wont say who i think is trying to pull such crap on you. tell the shop that you (meaning the BM ordering late) is willing to pay a rush charge for the one gown being ordered after the cut-off date and you WILL NOT pay rush charges for gowns that arent being rushed! and then report this shop to the better business bureau this situation stinks of shady business practices!

don't take this the wrong way, but, when I read that it means that all will have to pay since they all need to be ordered and made from the same lot at the same time.
one of your BM was late so she should be responsible for the fees.. I know it's a lot but there is a deadline for a reason. :( sorry I know it's not what you wanted to hear.

Re: help!!!!!!!!!
I think their policy is ridiculous! If everyone was going to be charged a rush fee, they should have made that clear - and given you the option of ordering all of the other dresses and having the one ordered later (even if it meant a different dye lot - they should have at least given you the option). I would definitely look into ordering the dresses from somewhere else.

I understand this NOW, after it was explained to me.. but prior to this conversation, I have no idea what a dye lot is and I know nothing about ordering dresses from a designer... I feel that to someone ignorant to bridal salons (me) this is something that I know nothing about. To me, black is black (the dresses are black) and I had no idea that all of the dresses need to be ordered at the same time... I don't know what to do!

Re: help!!!!!!!!!
beg and plead with the manager, hopefully they can cover some of the rush fee since it wasn't explicit.

Re: help!!!!!!!!!
She said that she would split the fee with me and charge $15 a dress... but I have 10 girls!!! There is no way I am asking them to spend even a dollar more... I am calling around to see if there are any other places, does anyone have any recommendations?

I'd call their bluff, tell them that you will pull your entire order if they do not waive the fee...its worth a try before you go crazy looking for somewhere else to buy

Good idea! (But you should be ready to walk if they won't do anything for you)

The only problem with this is that if your girls already signed a contract they may be responsible for the deposit anyway.
Even with Black dresses, the dye lot can be a little different. Thats why all the dresses need to be ordered together. I can see why you are angry and they should have been more explicit that ALL the girls would be charged a rush fee, but they also should have told you that they would not place the order until all your girls put the deposit down.

unfortunately I agree with this. They should have explained it better to you though.

Re: help!!!!!!!!!
It's a Jim Hjelm....
I have been arguing with the manager of the salon, I contacted the designer and they weren't able to be too specific due to confidentiality but the woman basically alluded to the fact that they wouldn't be charging a rush fee this much in advance... and another salon said that the dresses need to be ordered three months in advance.
The bridesmaids signed a contract saying that there will be no refunds so I can't cancel the order...
I told the manager that I would like to hear directly from the designer that they charge a rush fee at this time. Waiting to hear back.

Re: help!!!!!!!!!
Usually, bridal stores do not place an order until all the girls have come in to get measured, etc. So, if one bridesmaid orders late she stalls the rest of the order. Have you confirmed if the other dresses were ordered yet? I would assume not since they want to make sure the same dye is used on all the dreses.

I think your best bet is to threaten you will all get alterations somewhere else. This is there biggest money maker.

Re: help!!!!!!!!!
They waived the fee.... yay! Once I asked her to put me on a conference call with the designer to verify that they charge a rush fee, she called me back to tell me that they will waive the fee.
