WE ARE GETTING MARRIED AT THE HOLIDAY INN IN PLAINVIEW WE ARE HAVING THE CEREMONY AND RECEPTION THERE BUT MY FURTURE MOTHER IN LAW IS ALL OVER ME ON HOW WE SHOULD BE GETTING MARRIED IN A CHURCH AND ITS NOT IN THE EYES OF GOD IF WE DONT.. I JUST DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE???? I ALREADY TOLD HER ONCE OUR REASON WE ARE NOT GETTING MARRIED IN A CHURCH AND IN A COUPLE OF YEARS WE ARE MOST LIKELY GOING TO DO A CHURCH CEREMONY. WHAT SHOULD I DO???

Re: HELP!!!!!

If this is the wedding that both you and your FH want, then please stick to what you BOTH want and not what others want. I am Catholic and getting married in a church, however I also believe God is everywhere whether you choose to be married in a church or elsewhere. I know it's hard to listen to others preach what they think is right or wrong but its really up to you on what you want. If you can sit down with her and explain this is what you want, etc.

Re: HELP!!!!!

Nothing. If you say anything, your the evil Daughter in law. Your FH should just tell her why it won't work and that it's not going to happen, so to please just be happy your even having a wedding and not eloping somewhere.

Re: HELP!!!!!

You and your FH get married the way you two want to!! Don't let anyone pressure you into anything different. If in a couple of years you decide to have a church ceremony than do it! But it's your choice. My husband and I had a small ceremony in 2007 at The Snapper Inn and had a small reception for 50 people. Now for our 5 years anniversary we are having the church wedding and big reception. It was what worked best for us and we didn't let anyone or their opinions change anything! Best of luck with everything!!

Re: HELP!!!!!

Let your fiance handle it for the moment i would think. He should tell his mom he doesn't want a church ceremony either at the moment. Unless he wants a church ceremony too? Then you guys need to talk a bit more.

Re: HELP!!!!!

Do what you and FH want! Try and explain to her again that this is what you agreed on and if she brings it up again I would tell her that you explained your reasoning and there will be no further discussing it. Stuff like this really bugs me because its not like they don't hear you the first time or second time they just really don't like your answer, tough! Good luck with the situation!!

I hate when parents are old school. Do what is important to you and FH.

ITA...it's YOUR wedding and no one elses. Don't worry what anyone thinks. After the day is over you will hear no more complaining! :)

Re: HELP!!!!!

Honestly, I would do what is best for you and your FH. It is your wedding day and although you want to please everyone, you and FH come first. I would have FH handle this and tell them how you both feel about the decision you made as well as what you plan on doing in the future.

I'm in the exact same boat but it is with my mother. I have been skirting the issue. Not even sure if my mom is attending the wedding so I'm not worrying about it right now....
