Help a Homeless Child

Help a Homeless Child

As many of you know I have worked for Covenant House New York for the past 7 years.

Covenant House started over 30 years ago as a homeless shelter for teenagers and has now expanded into a national organization helping kids in most major cities across the US, Canada and Central America.

Here in NY we not only provide shelter to any child under the age of 21 (single men, women and mom's with babies) but we offer them job training, educational opportunities and so much more.

How can you help? Very simply-- We are always in need of donations--no not just monetary but things like business clothing, shoes, ties, toys for the kids, household appliances --so that when the kids move into their apartments they have things like plates and cups and toasters to take with them--- you name it we take it---

If you are interested in getting more involved we have numerous volunteer and mentoring opportunities as well as a Young Professionals Committee which is made up of 20-30 somethings who plan parties and events that raise money for the programs (great way to meet people and see different hot spots in NYC)

Re: Help a Homeless Child

Hi Laura!
I was looking at the CH website, and I cant find a link on how I can donate items.
I only found one for donating money.

How would I go about donating items? (kitchen items, clothing, etc).

Do they pick up in Suffolk?

Thanks

Re: Help a Homeless Child

For donating items you can mail them to
Covenant House New York
460 West 41st Street
New York, NY 10036

As far as pickups go Suffolk is kind of hard only because it is so far out but we take it on a case by case basis (depending on what you have to offer )

You can call 212-613-0300 and ask for the Volunteer Department and they can help you

hope that helps
