If a person has a significant other, do you put them on the front of the envelope too or just on the inner envelope? Or just if they live together? If they are engaged? And if you are inviting someone and their child, but they only have one child, do you say '& Family' or just write out that child's name?

Technically the ettiquette police say that if a couple does not live together you should send an invite separately to each person. If they live together (but are not married) then both names go on the outside and inside envelopes, but on the outside envelope you do not put an 'and' between their names.
HOWEVER, in my real world, that is not happening (sending separate invites). I am sending all couples (whether or not they're married) ONE invite. I believe I will follow the other rule, though, about both names on the outside and inside, not separated by an 'and' unless they are married.
HTH!
