so i just received my dress from davids bridal (i reordered it the 26th, they told me it would be in september 3rd, therefore giving me a heart attack!! but thank god it came in, after 2 weeks) i was told to go to phyllis for alterations cause she's amazing. well i just called her now and made an appointment but she said the minimum for an outside dress is 325. thats absolutely ridiculous!! does anyone know of anyone else thats really good but not so damn expensive??

Re: help!! alterations needed
I know Angel Bridals in East Islip is good, but I am not sure what they charge for dresses that are not purchased there. I guess it depends on what needs to be done.

Re: help!! alterations needed
Well, what sort of bustle are you having done and what other alterations does it need?
I am having a 7 point bustle, so my alterations were more than that at the store where I got mine done. It might not be overly expensive if it needs quite a bit of work.
If all it needs is a hem, though, you can do better.
I'm working with a seamstress at Lillettes. I don't know if they take outside dresses, but it's worth calling!

Hmmm, not sure what the average is. My gown needed a hem, the straps removed to make it strapless, stays put on the top of the dress to hook it to my bra, and the bustle.
All that was close to $400.
I think that I am getting a much more expensive bustle, though. The seamstress originally suggested 3 points with buttons and loops -- but my train is heavy and I do NOT want it falling down that day (despite how gorgeous the simple bustle looked). I asked for the type of bustle with strings - and we went with a 7 point bustle.

Re: help!! alterations needed
mine are estimated at 475 with phyllis but i need a very complicated bustle bc of my train/dress + hem, hooks for the longline bra/built in bra etc, special straps, and the top taken in about 2 sizes (which is complicated because i have lace/bonig/crystals/appliques/etc.) and i think im actually paying less than i expected.
so i think it mostly depends on what u need and how intricate your dress is to alter...but def price out the other reccomendations first. do u know the rate she normally charges for brides that buy their dress through her so u can compare?

The price will vary greatly depending on what you need done. You should try wherever your BMs bouht their dresses - since you have spent money there already your alterations should be a little cheaper. Good Luck!
