Help - am I asking for the impossible?

Help - am I asking for the impossible?

Hi all,

I'm looking for a reception place within an hour ride from Brooklyn/NYC, for under $100/person (planning on early September, Sunday).

Ideally, I would want a catering hall with a grand look on the inside with flowers/garden on the outside (ceremony outside as well). However mansions/mannors are ok as well, as long as they have high ceilings inside. I'm basically looking for a place that has a room that seats 100 people yet still looks like a beautiful ballroom.

Any recommendations from those who have done it? I want it to be affordable, beautiful, but not turn into a horror story because of bad service.

Why not try Lenord's of Great Neck. My sister got married there. She had the cermony inside but took all of her photo's outside in the gardens, beautiful tulips and greenery were in her photos in May. She didn't pay that much for it I think it was under $75 for a sunday afternoon and had more food than you could ever imagine and they have all different size rooms there so you could probally use a smaller room for your 100 people.

Hmmm...you could try Douglaston Manor

or Caffe on the Green

If you are looking in Brooklyn. I literally went to almost every single on in Brooklyn to get a quote and to look at the room/menu/service. Please FM and let me know what you need, I would be more than happy to help

Caffe on the Green is gorgeous and the food is excellent. There is also a nice view of the Throgs Neck Bridge. I love how it looks at night when it's lit up.

I wanted to use them for my wedding, but my date was booked.

ETA-Oh, and I think it should be in your budget. My budget was similar and I wouldn't have called them otherwise.

FYI- Caffe on the Green isn't cheap either though... to my knowledge, I think it goes for about 130 a head....so not sure if u can get 100 or less their per head...

Westbury Manor? I'm not sure on the price though, you should be able to negotiate a bit for a Sunday...

Caffe on the Green.

Not sure if this is in your price range but what about the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.

On a Sunday, you're going to have a lot more leeway with price. There are probably alot of places that could work with that.

Just make sure to stick to places that hold a maximum that is only slightly larger than the amount you want to have. I think even Tavern on the Green (Central Park) could be negotiated to about $100pp on a Sunday, but not sure if that's what you're looking for.

I'm not sure how far Roslyn is from Brooklyn, but its northwestern Nassau. How about Geotrge Washington Manor or the Swan Club?
Not sure if they are ball-roomy enough though. The George Washington manor doesn't have high ceilings I don't think.

I second Westbury Manor!!!

It's an old mansion on 6 acres in Westbury, Long Island. They have a room that will hold 100 people and there are french doors opening up from that ballroom to their gardens, which are just stunning. A number of brides have had weddings there recently and were kind enough to post photos - September is a pretty expensive month but for a day wedding on a sunday you should be able to get that price.

good luck!

Whoever came up with 'bridezillas' must have never seen this chat room :).

Thanks for the ideas! I love getting the opinions of real brides about the vendors.

You can look at my hall, the Grand Prospect Hall. It's in Park Slope and has a lot of pretty ballrooms. All the prices they quoted me were under $100.

When we checked prices at Caffe on the Green a few months ago, it ranged from $66-$95 for a Saturday night, depending on the amount of food and month. BUT, now that I've looked over my notes, it seems that they need a guarantee of 150 peeps, so that's not going to work for you.

Have you looked at the SandCastle? It sounds like it might fit into what you are looking for although for that price, you might have to switch to a Friday or Saturday. Anyway, it's definitely worth checking out, because it's in Franklin Square.

They would give you the skylight room for 100 people -- they just remodeled this room and it looks beautiful.

SandCastle

You should also look into the Astoria World Manor.

Good luck!

Crest Hollow as long and you do not mind there being more than one event in the hall. It is in Woodbury (Nassau county). They have beautiful rooms. I am in the Emerald room but if you are looking for more of a ball room for 100 people, they can set you up in the Starlight room. Very nice. All the rooms have high ceilings. They have 24 acers of gardens for you to take pictures on. An outside chaple, though they can so you inside also. I have seen the pics of how they do that, and that is lovely also. Elain is my banqute manager and she is wonderful. There are a few other girls going there that are on here.

Price: you are probably looking at about 80 per head for a Saturday. I am in April, on a Sunday, and we are doing it for 67.50 a head. Then you have to add the other fees on.
