Ok, so FH and I saw 2 apartments that we really liked tonight, after looking about about 20 in the past week. We're trying to go through the pros and cons to decide which to take. They are both in good locations and both reasonably priced. One has 1 bedroom, but it's big enough to fit a king size bed and furniture, the living room can fit a decent amount of furniture, a nice eat in kitchen and it has a washer/dryer in the basement. the 2nd aparment has 2 big bedrooms and a huge living room/dining room that we could fit a lot of furniture in and not worry about where people would sit and I could fit my great aunt's dining room set that was left to me. The only problem with apartment 2 is that the kitchen is even less than efficiency. It has the smaller sized fridge and stove, hardly ANY counter or cabinet space and is outdated. We just can't decide!
Do we go with the 1 bedroom, that is decent sized and has an eat kitchen, not huge though. or do we go with the other that has bigger bedrooms, a huge living and dining room, but a crappy kitchen!? they are approximately the same price...what would you do???

personally I would go with the more upgraded one..even if thats the one with one bedroom! me and fh are not good at home improvement though..so a house that was in perfect condition was a must for us..

Re: HELP - Apartment Dilema!
go for the smaller one with the better kitchen... I think the kitchen will be a very important thing to you and once you have to spend time there you will hate it if its small and old.

I would do the 1 bedroom, b/c for me the kitchen is important!! I couldn't survive with the tiny fridge and small stove, I think that makes such a difference!

Are you looking to buy or rent? If you are buying, I'd definitely go with the 2 bedroom and renovate the kitchen down the line, its much better for resale. If you are just renting and feel that one bedroom is sufficient, I'd go with the better kitchen if that is important to you.

Re: HELP - Apartment Dilema!
I'm not going to help much but I would go with the 2 bedroom and more space. I don't know if you rent now, or have ever rented but you will find that you have a lot more stuff then you think and no where to put it. the 2nd bedroom would give you an extra closet. Also I like to entertain so a big living area and dining area allows you to do that no matter how big your kitchen is. The 2nd bedroom could act as an office? I have a bed in my 2nd bedroom for friends who want to stay over....think about closets. I feel like most people don't and regret it. more space is better in my opinion.

Not sure why you have to choose between those two- why dont you keep looking and see if you find something better- there are sooo many apts. available.

Always go with the better kitchen. I miss having a real kitchen right now (I'm living with my MIL) and I have no counter space or cabinets.

we have looked at at least 20 apartments in the past week and these are by far the 2 best, as far as look, location and price. We could keep looking, but I don't know what else we'll find at this point. We want to move in within the next few weeks.
We are only to rent right now. I keep going back and forth. FH and I can't make a decision. I wish we could combine the 2 places! I want to have a nice kitchen, but I was looking forward to having a place where we could entertain. The 2nd place is much better for that. We just wouldn't be spending much time in the kitchen!
I appreciate everyone giving their opinions. I think I might take my mom and FMIL to take a look too. It's hard when you're just describing.

why does it have to be so difficult! And I'm sorry I never made it to look at your old place. We were just in a bad place at that time!
things are going well. We just stuffed envelopes last night and I'm hoping to have invites out by the end of the week. I can't believe it's less than 3 months!!!
How's is going by you??

Re: HELP - Apartment Dilema!
Kitchens and bathrooms are the most expensive rooms in a house/apt. to fix up. Go with the one with the more updated kitchen if you guys aren't very handy or don't have the $$ to upgrade the kitchen.

that's exactly what i was talking about with my mom and FH last night. at least i know i can go down the hall to either bedroom or go in the living room and we would have our own space. in the smaller apartment, i would feel like we were still on top of each other, if we unfortunately needed to get away from each other!, b/c there is only a wall separating.
************************************ well unfortunately since we are renting, i don't think we can do any kind of renovations. i'm thinking about asking if they were planning on at least updating something.
