So, I just found out 10 minutes ago that Atlantica is going out of business!! WHATTT!!!!!???! I have a wedding planned there for 9-6-2010!! BUT SOMES BRIDES HAVE BEEN CALLED!!! And I havent??! Im soo upset! We called Atlantica and they said 'We dont know whats going on?!' Thats not good enough for me!! Do I need a new venue? A new date?! OMG! This is something I never thought of! DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING??!?!

i dont know anything, but if i were in your position i would call them and tell them what your options are? can you cancel? do you get your money back? etc. they need to give you some answers so you can start looking elsewhere if need be

some girls were talking about this yesterday....it seems their rent tripled and they don't know if they can afford it yet...it seems like everything is up in the air and they are advising that girls look for a new place. i'm so sorry!

Honeslt yif I were you. I would get your money back BEFORE They close. Getting it back after or while they are shutting down will be an even bigger nightmare.

I would suggest definately gettin your money back and booking a new venue.... especially after everthing that happened with the brides at the allegria in long beach having to cancel their wedding and rebooking cause they werent open yet.. i would be worried to do business with people like that.... to be completely honest with you I dont think they can be trusted at this point.. I am sooo sorry you have to go through this sweetie.. its def not fair!!!

Thanks ladies... i really appreciate your compassion and help. I have a knot in my stomach right now! I guess me and my FH are going to have to make some phone calls. I now want to do a destination wedding! Im so upset with this whole thing... We also already booked our photographer and DJ...I dont want to loose those downpayments... ugh!!! I thought this wedding planning was supposed to be fun!

I am in the same situation!!! Our wedding is scheduled for October1, 2010 at Atlantica...
I did not get the phone call but received forum mail from someone who had... so I called and tried to speak to my planner - she wasn't there. They are advising to cancel since they don't know how the lease negotiations will turn out.. but are holding our dates at the Allegria... we live all the way out East and are not going UP island for the wedding... Westhampton was actually the farthest west we were going to go. Call them and get your deposit back.
I am searching for new venues this weekend (montauk and shelter island). I am heartbroken - I was in love with the walls of windows....but my finance says it is a blessing in disguise... and at least it happend just shy of a year in advance and not a few months ( I feel so bad for you girls, if their are any)
We have our photgrapher and band booked also and don't want to lose them so we are locked in on the date. FH and I have briefly discussed a destination wedding... I don't know what we will do.

My RH said it is suffolk county law that they must give you dept back except for $100 if you cancle more then six months before the event

If you girls end up cancelling and you lose deposits for your photog and band and stuff...I would just take them to court for the deposits you're losing. It would be small claims for the deposits and honestly you'd be silly to just walk away and lose them.
Also were there any funny clauses in the contract you signed that said anything about them closing? If not you have an even better lawsuit.
I'm assuming they had something in there though being that they've known they're closing since 2007.
