help! birth control question.....

Ive been on birth control- Demulen for 8 years... i recently switched to Zovia-the generic brand to save $$$. ive been on it for 3 months now and i am having severe mood swings...i am so emotional- one minute im fine the next im bitching at my husband and fighting and actually throwing things. could a pill have that affect on you?

it is possible to have mood swings after switching brands even to generic. oftentimes, the primary ingredients from generic to brand are the same, but the secondary ones can differ in some way.

Yes that is possible. I had problems switvhing from Ortho Tri Cyclen to the generic.

Very possible - I'm like Sybil when I have anything but Ortho and I even need to take that at night so the hormones hit in the middle of the night instead of during the day.

I can't wait to go off of it altogether!!

Is it bad enough that you need to go back to the pricey kind?

it definitely does, i switched brands to see if it had anything to do with it , and i have been better since.

i use ortho tri cylcen lo

I had my dr. sign a form saying that the generic form of ortho caused me to have side effects (it did), and now my insurance covers all but the copay for the real ortho instead of the generic. Give them a call and see what they do--they have to have an option to allow you the name brand if the generic is causing you problems.

i am on yasmin now Woo woo doesnt come in a generic,
but when i was on triphasil, i switched to the generic and i GAINED 10 pounds, i was AWFUL!

I was psycho on Ortho Tri Cyclen, so yes, I definitely think this could be the case.

YES! When I switched to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo-dose, I became a ranting weeping crying b*tch. I switched right back to regular OTC and became a normal woman again.

Yes it can. Maybe there's something in the generic version that does somethign to your hormones.

I would talk to your dr. about it...but for your sanity I would not take that version anymore.

The pill can do that. I used to have severe mood swings. I used to get severely depressed and would cry all the time. I had to try a couple of pills before I found the right one. I take Orthotricyclin and I no longer have a problem.

Let your MD know ASAP. There are other pills on the market. You need to find another one so you can start feeling better. Good luck!
