HELP!! Calligrapher/Invites question

Hi..
I have my invites at the printer... And found my calligrapher.. can I send my envelopes to get calligraphy before I get my invites back from the printer?

Is there a rule to this??

Also I am getting the outer envelopes calligraphy...i didn't want to spend the extra $ to get the rsvp envelopes.. what are other people doing? I don't want it to look bad so if i have to do calligraphy i will.
