Help! Celebrant & Concelebrant?
I need your advice ladies on a sticky situation.
I had chosen my old parish priest who is also good family friend, and is now a Monsignor who has been promoted out of our parish to a higher post to preside at our wedding.
He's a great priest with a strong voice and I love his homilies. Now, his father recently passed away and he's not going to make it to the reception which I invited him to but he is still going celebrate the nuptual mass. So I'm happy for that.
Now, it gets a little tricky. I asked an old friend who I know from a young adults church group, who became a priest about 4 years ago or so to say a blessing and grace at the reception. He replied with this e-mail:
'I'd be happy to bless the food at your reception. Hope it's okay if I concelebrate at your wedding Mass itself. Please, let me know one way or another. God bless.'
I'm not sure what I should reply to my priest friend.
I spoke to the Monsignor to see if he would mind if my friend concelebrated and he was very nice about it and said he's okay with it if I am.
But I had envisioned the Monsignor celebrating the mass on his own. And, I feel it was nice of my friend to offer to concelebrate but it puts me in a bit of an awkward position if I want to say thanks but no thanks. My friend is a little soft spoken too so I 'm afraid he won't project during the ceremony as well. But I don't won't to offend him by saying no either. I've known my friend since 1999. So it's been awhile. And, I do think it's a kind offer.
I guess I should be happy that I could have two very good priest celebrate the mass.
I don't know what to do.
What do you suggest? What would you do?
