Please help with wording for DIY engagement invitations....

Re: Help! DIY engagement invitions...

Some people say the girl: ladies first.
I have always known it to be the person who is paying for the wedding. If parents are paying, their names should go first.

For you and FH paying:
Jane Smith and John Hancock would like you to come help them celebrate their engagement!
The party will be on 5/5/05 at 5:55 pm at 1313 Mockingbird Lane, Beverly HIlls, CA, 90210

If parents are paying:
Mr and Mrs Jim Smith would like to invite you to celebrate the engagement of their daughter Jane Smith to John Hancock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hancock. The party will be on 5/5/05 at 5:55 pm at 1313 Mockingbird Lane, Beverly HIlls, CA, 90210

Re: Help! DIY engagement invitions...

My invitations were of a frog prince with a border that said happily ever after. Under the prince in pink lettering I wrote

'Pam ______ has found her prince!'

Then I did the regular invitation junk:

Please join us for a cocktail party to
celebrate the engagement of
Pamela _____________
and
William ____________
on June 8th, 2007 at 8 p.m.
at blahblahblah

Please rsvp by

I wanted to make sure that people were aware of the fact that it was a cocktail party so that they didnt show up expecting a full sit down dinner and not eat beforehand and wind up getting wasted.

Mine said something like:

Joe popped the question
'Will you be my wife?'
And Susie said
'I will love you for all of my life'

Please join us in celebrating
the engagement of the future
Mr. & Mrs. Jones
at the home of the Smith's

and then the rest of the info

Ettiquette says ladies name always goes first, but do whatever you like better.

I used this poem on my invites.

He came to her on bended knee
and asked her will you marry me?
They now have found their lifelong mate
And so its time to celebrate
