HELP! DJ pricing (x-post with brides helping brides)

I met with a DJ tonight and was told $2000 for a 4 hour reception (just a DJ, no extra MC, no lights, etc), and then for an extra $500 they would also do the ceremony and CH background music (all DJ, no live music). I feel like this might be a bit too much -- how does this compare:

1) To what you were quoted for just a reception DJ (I was quoted $2000); and

2) To what you were quoted for a DJ handling the reception, but also the ceremony and CH music (I was quoted $2500).

seems a bit high

cocktail music, reception, a few extras for about $1100

I was quoted 2500.00 but it came with 2 50' plasma screens club lighting & the name logo in lights. DJ & an MC. all of the Montages zap shots & live feed. Alot of stuff

Absolute:
Complete - $1495
1 hour cocktail music and 4 hour reception
DJ and MC
basic light package w/ 2 dazzling light effects

Deluxe - $1945
choice of live cocktail musician or party favors or ceremony music
4 hour reception w/ DJ and MC
deluxe light package w/ 8' truss and ten dazzling light effects

they have a bunch more packages (both more expensive and less)

Thats def high - try FM Entertainment. Their basic packages starts around 1000 with DJ, MC and basic lights.

try DJ sound Choice they are a vendor on here and that's who we went with

That sounds very high to me.

FM Entertainment will do a 4 hour 1 man DJ/MC for $795.

I'm using FM and paying about $1850 for ceremony, cocktail hour, 4 hour reception 1 man DJ/MC, 2 vertical truss club lights and precussionist.

That def. sounds a bit high to me also! I haven't booked yet, but I have received quotes...

I'm getting Ceremony, CH, Reception, DJ and MC, 4 vertical trusses with club lights for $3500. Granted it's a little expensive but, I'm picky and my DJ is awesome.

Seems a bit high for me too. I got Cocktail hour and reception coverage a full 5 hours for $1500. Since he quoted us such an awesome price we decided to get a harpist for the Ceremony and she is $500.
