Help! DJ questions!

i just made an appt to meet with a dj tonight - what questions should i ask? are djs negotiable at all? i'm clueless!

YES ver negotiable... do not take their first offer...

Ask to see some fotage of them working.
Ask how involved/ not involved they will be.
How do they handle weird requests from guests
do they have back up power if something should go wrong
are they insured
If you want them for CH music ask if they provide it


They are pretty self explanitory once you are there but 100% negotiate!!!!

Have they worked at your hall before? (so they know the layout, matre'd, and availability of outlets)

how much for overtime (if you are having a v-hour that might go into overtime)

how many people will be on your event (so u have an idea if you are paying for their food)

upcoming showcases or, as Shauna said, footage of the MC's that are available for your date.

Do they own all their equiptment or do they go to a 3rd party to get it.

How long have they been in the business.

Approx how long ahead of time do they arrive to the hall (normal is 1 hour before cocktail. Could be earlier depending on set up)

What extra's do they offer (plasma's, intel lighting, kenetic lighting, zap shots, montage, live performers such as singers, sax players, pianist, drummers, giveaways, stages, uplighting)

what would be considered a reasonable quote from a DJ? if you want maybe basic lighting plus a mc/dj combo?
