We have an electric stove. I can't believe I've had it for 4 years and never thought to try the self cleaning option. I usually clean it by hand w/a sponge. Tonight I hit the button for self clean. It says it's going to take over 4 hours and it's smelling up the entire apt badly. Anyone else ever use this option? I'm scared. Ha ha!

my mom does it randomly..
it will stink open the windo and get a fan going
but it clears up all the gook.. and then wipe it down.. its great

Thanks for the tip! Ugh, I still have to wipe it up? Ha ha! Just kidding. I thought it was going to be some sort of magic car wash for you oven. Ha ha!

well liek a wipe down.. but all teh gook gets the boot.

I have a self cleaning oven but it's gas not electric. Dont know if this applies to you or is too late but I can set mine for less time... I'm not super messy, I just like it really clean. Open a window and put your fan on.... in a few hours you'll be amazed!!!!

I have all the windows open and all the fans on in the apartment. My cat has been so upset she is downstairs by the door - crying for so long. I'm afraid the smoke must really be bothering her. I hope she's OK. this is a very long process.
Basically, I was going to bake some dumb brownies and there was spilled food all over the inside the oven.
