HELP!!! Does Nassau Have Laws to Get Your DEPOSIT Back?
Hello Ladies,
FI and I decided on a destination wedding and an at home reception at our original venue for about 40 people who will not be able to make it to wedding and reception overseas. Now I called the hall and asked them of I could apply the $1000 deposit that I put down to have a small at home reception/luncheon for about 40 peple and they said yes. They also said it would be $50 pp and I need to send them something in writing so they can cancel my original wedding date and have that date open so they can sell it to someone else. So I got a letter together requesting that I wanted the at home reception/luncheon on Nov. 8 and that they coould release 10.11.08. Lo and behold I called about 5 days later to see if they got the fax and the person I had been dealing with at the location flips the scripts on me and tells me that the only way I won't loose my depsit is if I have the luncheon for the the original amount of the minimum for my wedidng reception (120) and at the original price ($75pp). She said if I want to book a luncheon/at home reception then I would have to put down another $1000Needless to say I was upset becasue I felt like I was told whatever was necessary to get the information they wanted faxed so they could open the date back up. So my question is, Does Nassau have any laws like Suffolk regarding deposits or am I just stuck taking a loss
TY

I don't think I've ever seen anyone on here mention a law like that for Nassau, it could just be a suffolk thing ....

I know suffolk does but I dont know about nassau.
Check your contract, it may state how much you lose if you cancel and they open the date up and re-book

I think you should meet with the original person you talked to or the manager and re-explain the situation. Then get it in writing... it's so hard to prove verbal contracts so its best to have it in writing so you can show everyone.
