Hi Ladies, Have you gotten your engagement ring insured? I am looking to get that done this weekend. Any recommendation for jewelry store appraisers in Queens/Nassau area. Also did you insure the ring under your homeowners/rental insurance or other. Thanks!

Re: Help! Engagement ring appraisal and insurance
My ring was appraised by the person who my FH purchased it from. My ring was insured under homeowners. ITs not that expensive...it was around 60 bucks. Good Luck!!!

Re: Help! Engagement ring appraisal and insurance
originally mine was covered under my moms homeowners since i lived at home. now that FH and i moved in we decided to get renters to cover it. we pay $47 a month with no deductible. the jewler who sold it to him (our family jewler) sent him the appraissal from when he crafted the ring - i didnt even have to go back in to show it to him!

Re: Help! Engagement ring appraisal and insurance
The price of the insurance depends on how much the ring is worth. So the more $$ your FH spent the more $$ the insurance. If u have homeowners you can usually add it as a rider. If not, you have to get a separate policy. My policy is through Chubb and it is a separate policy. It is costing $500/year. Also, there are two types of policies...one will give you a 'replacement' the other will give you the $$. Mine is the kind that gives you $$ if you loose the ring.

I have a separate policy through jeweler's mutual. It costs us less than $150 a year. I like that it protects the rings anywhere in the world and also covers damage not just loss.

I got my ring appraised at the Jewelry Judge in Garden City and he gave us info on Personal Jewelry Insurance. He was great!! We went to Barry Block

Re: Help! Engagement ring appraisal and insurance
i got mine thru state farm. we both still live at home, and it would have been a PITA to go thru homeowners for me....
its personal property insurance.
and the price depends on how much your ring appraises for, and how high your deductible is.
